Chapter Text
In this world, it’s very important to not only find your soulmate, but that your soulmate is of equal or higher social class as you. It could bring great shame to your family if your soulmate was someone they wouldn’t approve of. The rates of destined pairs killing themselves with the hopes of a happier ending in the next life are quite high. Many can’t handle the shame of an unfavorable match up…
Hiyoko Saionji’s grandmother was desperate to find her granddaughter’s soulmate. As the heir to the Saionji family legacy, Hiyoko’s soulmate being more favorable was important. It was Hiyoko’s mother’s unfavorable soulmate that made her lose status in the family ranking after all, no they wouldn’t let her share the was fate. The current matriarch of the Saionji family was fully ready to fake her granddaughter finding a soulmate if the situation grew too dire.
Thankfully, they both had time. Hiyoko was still relatively young, no need to force a husband on her just yet.
The traditional dancer sat outside with her friends during their university’s lunch break. Truthfully, most of her friends haven’t located their soulmates yet. Expect that pig faced slut Mikan, with another girl no less. So, Hiyoko wasn’t exactly worried about it personally. She was in no rush to settle down and continue the family line.
She had spaced out while Mahiru and her reserve course bestie was yapping away at something. Sometimes that happened when she stared at pretty people, but that didn’t mean anything. Who didn’t space out staring at pretty things?
“So, are you going?” The photographer’s voice snapped the traditional dancer’s mind back to reality.
“Am I going where?” Hiyoko repeated back, confused with a scrunched up annoyed expression on her features.
Suddenly, Ibuki hugged Hiyoko from the side. She practically threw herself onto the other girl and she was lucky they both didn’t tumble over like dominoes. “To see Ibuki play this weekend! I would totally love to drag all of you on stage to dance while Ibuki performs!”
The traditional dancer could feel her face heating up for some reason. Her expression shifted into a pout. “We’ll see, I’ll have to get permission from the old hag.” Hiyoko grumbled while making a dismissive hand gesture.
Ibuki also pouted as she leaned forward and pressed even closer to Hiyoko. Their cheeks rubbed together as the musician nuzzled the other young woman.
The blonde couldn’t help but laugh even as she acted annoyed, playfully pushing the other off of her. “Get off me, pussycat! I’ll do my best to be there!” Hiyoko shook her head and rolled her eyes at the other’s antics.
The musician with multicolored hair dramatically flopped to the ground. A hand with dark painted nails grabbed onto her chest as if faking a heart attack. “Blehhhh rejection!” Ibuki laid on the ground for a few moments hoping to earn the laughter of her friends. She then shot straight up, arms raised for cheering. “Yay yay! This is definitely a performance that you wouldn’t want to miss!”
Hiyoko rested her chin in her hand and huffed as she watched Ibuki pretend to play an invisible guitar. Her throat tightening as the back of her mind lingers on the thought of the other young woman pressed against her.

The night of Ibuki’s big performance! The entire squad did manage to show up. Hiyoko was surprised at how easily the old hag let her go, but that might just be because she had something unpleasant she wanted the dancer to do later. Oh well, now wasn’t the time to think about that. Now was the time to be supportive and enjoy music with friends.
To be continued.
