Angstpril Day 17: "Just go."

Summary:

The class makes their grand escape

Work Text:

As soon as Ms. Agatha's footsteps faded, the teens all flew out of their seats and threw the windows open, quickly jumping out.

Some landed better than others so they hurried to help the fallen ones up and started running.

It wouldn't be long before the staff realized they were missing.

Just as the last student was helped up, the doors to the school burst open and teachers were bolting towards the group. The kids didn't look back as they sprinted down the hill towards the fences.

One tripped, another tried to help them up but they shouted out, "JUST GO! SAVE YOURSELF!"

The student hesitated to leave them behind and that's how they were caught. The others learned their lesson and didn't bother stopping, not even when the sound of someone hitting the ground and screaming rung out through the lawn.

The first few made it to the fence and rammed themselves against it, tumbling down with the weak chain links.

Good thing the fences hadn't been replaced. I guess nobody expected this. That thought was quickly smothered as they reached the end of the property—a tall cliff standing in their way to freedom.

The drop would kill them if they jumped.

One girl came barrelling through "Hold on! I can get us down!"

Felicity! The girl's gravity powers could save them! But not all of them, not with the teachers right on their heels…

"JUMP AND I'LL CATCH YOU!" Felicity yelled as she ran straight off the edge and went soaring down.

Most of the others hesitated to follow, but Faye didn't. She jumped off and let out a terrified shriek, but her fall was broken by Felicity's gravity manipulation just a few feet before she landed.

Once the others saw the proof with their own eyes, they started flying through the air as well, screams echoing all around.

The few in the back were too late and got snatched by the teachers and guards before they could escape, so with the last person safely down, Felicity and him bolted off.

Based off a quick estimate, only around 20-30 of the 60 teens made it out safely. The others were too slow and got dragged back into the school.

Thirty is still half. Hopefully the other classes managed to get out.

The four classes they managed to gather for the escape were all the on the east side of the building. The west side said they would try running as well, but nobody knows if they made it out.

Despite the guards having no safe way to scale the cliff and having to take the long way down, the escaped teens knew the security would likely catch up quick on wheels, so they kept running to put as much distance as possible between them before the adults could catch up.

They ran for about another ten minutes before stopping, tumbling to the ground in exhaustion.

Richard was heaved over on the ground, gasping for air. "F**k. I wasn't built for all this running."

Felicity had settled down next to Richard and patted him on the back. "It's okay, we can have a minute to rest. But we have to keep moving soon."

"Easy for you to say," August spat out. "You have gravity manipulation—you can change your gravitational pull and make yourself lighter!"

Richard groaned. "Shut up, Augustine. You're wasting breath."

August sent a glare at Richard as he promptly shut up.

"Where are we even supposed to go?" One of the older girls questioned. "My parents live in Minnesota, there's no way I can make it all the way back there before getting caught!"

"We need to leave the country." Everyone stared at Faye like she had just grown two heads.

"Leave the country?!"

"Yes!" Faye exclaimed, as if her plan made perfect sense.

"You're being ridiculous, we can just get back to our parents."

"But what if they don't believe us? What then, huh?"

Felicity sighed heavily and stood up. "Let's just find the nearest bus stop and head our separate ways home. I'm sure our parents will believe us."

All the teens groaned but got back up and dusted themselves off. With everything settled, they made their way east, this time at a slower pace to conserve energy.
