Work Text:

Sanemi will always remember the day his baby brother was born. Back then Genya was so small, so fragile and Senami knew he would do whatever it took to keep his baby brother safe.

Years have passed since that day and Genya was no longer little. In fact he was just a bit taller than Sanemi himself.

But to Sanemi, Genya will always be his baby brother. Especially in times like these when his brother was regressed.

It took Sanemi some time to wrap his head around the age regression thing. It wasn’t too different from taking care of his younger siblings when they were all still small.

Of course Sanemi couldn’t hold Genya the same way he would a baby, the teen was too tall and lanky for that. But other things like changing wet clothes and feeding bottles were mostly the same.

Genya was laying on the floor in the living room scribbling on paper and Sanemi was watching him with a smile.

His brother looked so happy and that in turn made Sanemi happy.

Genya eventually stopped his scribbling then turned to his brother showing him the drawing he had made.

“That’s an amazing drawing, Gen,” Sanemi praised.

Genya smiled brightly and handed the drawing to his brother, before he started working on his next.

It had been a low energy day. Genya had woken up little, something that wasn’t too uncommon.

Mornings when Genya woke up little were always lively, depending on how small his brother felt. When his brother was really little there was a lot more work he had to do, compared to when his brother was a bit bigger. But no matter what Sanemi always took care of his brother without any complaints

“Almost lunchtime bud,” Sanemi told Genya after looking at the time.

Genya whined.

Sanemi could only assume it was because his brother didn’t want to stop drawing, but he also knew Genya wasn’t a big fan of lunch either.

“No whining,” Sanemi said softly. “I’m pretty sure we have watermelon in the fridge.”

This seemed to change Genya's mood almost instantly as he turned to his brother with wide eyes.

Sanemi couldn’t help but chuckle, “I’ll cut some of that up for you.”

Genya nodded then went right to his drawing as Sanemi went into the kitchen.

He pulled the watermelon from the fridge and began cutting it up into small cubes then put it into a plastic bowl for his brother to eat. After that he pulled out one of Genya’s sippy cups from the cupboard and filled it with apple juice.

He thought for a moment it might be too much sugar for his brother, but figured it couldn’t be that bad if the sugar was coming from fruit.

Sanemi took his brother's lunch to the kitchen then placed it on the table before he went back to the living room.

“Lunch time, Gen,” he said as he lifted Genya off the floor.

Genya made a small squeak sound as Sanemi grabbed him.

Sanemi carried his brother to the kitchen and set him down on his chair at the table. Sanemi then took his own seat next to Genya.

It didn’t take long for Genya to start eating the watermelon.

Sanemi couldn’t help but chuckle as he watched Genya eat. Normally it was always a fight to get Genya to eat but it seemed like almost nothing would stop him from eating watermelon.

It didn’t take long for Genya to finish his lunch, leaving his hands sticky with juice from the watermelon.

Sanemi lifted Genya off the kitchen chair, “Lets get you cleaned up.”

Genya hummed in agreement.

Genya hadn’t been too vocal today. Sanemi was used to this, sometimes when Genya would regress very young he wouldn’t talk. At first Sanemi struggled trying to understand what his brother would need when he could tell him but by now Sanemi was an expert at it.

He brought Genya to the bathroom then sat him down on the closed toilet seat lid. He grabbed the Bluey washcloth from the counter and got it wet, he squeezed out some of the water then turned back to Genya and began to wipe his brothers hands clean and then his face, Genya giggling as he did so.

Sanemi lifted Genya up again, “Such a messy eater,” he coos.

Genya grabbed onto his brother's shirt then nuzzled into the crock of his neck.

“Wanna cuddle on the couch?” Sanemi asked him.

Genya hummed and Sanemi knew that was a yes.

On their way back to the living room, Sanemi stopped by Genya’s room grabbing his pacifier from the top of his dress knowing he would likely need it.

Once the brothers were on the couch Sanemi got Genya comfortable on his lap before he put Bluey on the TV.

Genya leaned against his brother, his head resting against Sanemi’s chest.

Genya tried to bring his finger to his mouth but Sanemi quickly stopped him,  putting the pacifier in Genya’s mouth instead.

Sanemi started to run his fingers through Genya’s hair, paying more attention to his brother then he did the TV show.

But who could blame him? Genya always looked so peaceful at moments like this. It always reminded him of when they were actually little. And the moments their father wasn’t around.

It was peaceful.

Sanemi continued to watch Genya as he struggled to keep his eyes open.

“Nap time?” Sanemi asked softly.

Genya shook his head.

Sanemi smiled, “If you say so.”

Sanemi knew soon his brother would fall asleep, and when that would happen he would take his brother to his room, something he had done many times before.

And as expected after only a couple more episodes of Bluey Genya fell asleep.

Sanemi was careful as he stood up still holding his brother doing his best to not jostle Genya too much.

Once Sanemi made it to Genya’s room, he carefully placed Genya down, he grabbed Genya’s Bingo plushie and tucked it under his arm before pulling the blanket over his brother's shoulder. He gave Genya a small kiss on the forehead before leaving the room, leaving the door open a crack.

Sanemi used this down time to clean the apartment. He picked Genya’s art stuff off the floor and returned them to where they belong. Then he went to the kitchen and began cleaning the dishes.

It was a nice and peaceful moment.

A couple hours later, Sanemi heard Genya crying from his room and he quickly went to check on his brother.

“Gen, what's wrong?” Sanemi asked his brother.

Genya just sniffled and rubbed at his eyes.

Sanemi went to get Genya out of his bed, but his brother instantly grew fussy, and Sanemi knew what had happened.

“It’s okay bud,” he cooed, “Lets get you cleaned up.”

It wasn’t uncommon for his brother to wet the bed when he was little. Even still it was always an upsetting experience for Genya especially when he’s not wearing a diaper or pull up.

Honestly, Sanemi blamed himself for this one. He knew Genya was little and probably should have put his brother in some protection earlier in the day, it was just luck Genya didn’t have an accident until now.

Sanemi brought Genya to the bathroom and started to fill the tub with water. As the tub was filling up he helped Genya out of his wet clothes, which seemed to calm his brother down a decent amount.

“There we go,” Sanemi said softly.

Genya just sniffled.

Sanemi helped his brother into the tub.

Genya seemed to Genya the bath, slapping playfully at the water. Sanemi again couldn’t help but smile as he began to wash his brother.

Once the bath was done, Sanemi helped Genya out of the tub and wrapped him in a fluffy towel before taking him back to Genya’s room.

Sanemi placed Genya down then worked on drying his brother off. Once that was one he went to the closest and pulled out one of his brother's diapers. Genya didn’t fuss as Sanemi got him changed into it and then dry and comfy clothes.

“I’ll be right back,” Sanemi told his brother before he left the room to grab Genya’s wet clothes from the bathroom and a change of sheets from the closet in the hall.

Sanemi returned to Genya’s room and tossed the wet clothes into the laundry basket before he went to change Genya’s bedding, the wet sheets joining the wet clothes in the laundry basket.

Sanemi then lifted Genya off the floor and balanced him against his hip before grabbing the laundry basket and balancing it against his other side.

“Let's get these into the washing machine,” Sanemi said.

Genya responded by putting his fingers in his mouth.

Sanemi let it slide for now as he had no free hands to stop his brother.

It took some work but Sanemi eventually got the wet clothes and bedding into the washing machine and got the machine started.

“What should we do now?” Sanemi asks his brother as he takes him back to the living room.

Genya just babbled in response.

Sanemi sat down on the couch and brought Genya onto his lap.

“Giyuu should be home soon,” Sanemi noted after checking the time.

Genya made a small happy sound and Sanemi smiled.

“I’m sure he’ll be happy to see you as well.”

In the end Sanemi turned Bluey back on until Giyuu got home. And once Giyuu was home Sanemi would get started on dinner, and a couple hours after that it would be Genya’s bed time.

Sanemi let out a content sigh as he watched his brother. He loved watching his brother like this.

“You know, Gen,” Sanemi said softly, running his fingers through his brother's hair. “No matter what, you'll always be my baby brother.”

Genya just looked up at him with wide innocent eyes.

Sanemi pulled Genya into a hug, “I love you, Gen.”
