Work Text:

Sanemi was having an off day. Maybe he didn’t get enough sleep the night before or perhaps he was over working himself, but he felt bad. Things were only made worse by Genya regressing.

Sanemi knew his brother had little control over when he was little, but this was honestly the last thing he needed right now.

And Genya equally seemed to be in a bad mood because he was crying and Sanemi couldn’t get him to stop, and honestly it was making Sanemi want to cry as well.

He just had to wait a few more minutes and then Giyuu would be home and he could pass Genya to him and he could take some time to decompress.

Until then Sanemi still had to deal with Genya.

He sighed, holding his brother and rubbing his back, “It’s okay, Gen.” He was really at a loss of what to say or do for his brother.

Sanemi sat on the couch still cradling Genya.

Then the front door finally opened, and it was the most beautiful sound Sanemi had ever heard.

Giyuu entered the living room as say Sanemi holding Genya, he noticed his boyfriend looked at his wits ends as he was holding his crying brother.

“You both okay?”

“No,” Sanemi breathed, “I can’t get him to stop crying.”

“What about you?”

Sanemi bit his lip to stop himself from crying. “I need a break,” he admitted in a shaky voice.

Giyuu sat on the couch next to Sanemi and held his arms out, “hand him over.”

Sanemi slowly handed Genya over to Giyuu, which only upset Genya more, instantly trying to get back in his brother's lap.

A look of guilt crossed Sanemi’s face and Giyuu thought Sanemi was about to change his mind and pull his brother back to his lap. “I’m sorry Genya,” Sanemi ended up saying instead.

“Why don’t you go lay down while I take care of him,” Giyuu suggested.

Sanemi was quiet for a moment before he nodded, “If you need anything come get me.”

“Only if it’s an emergency,” Giyuu replied.

Sanemi hesitated before nodding, “fine.”

“‘Nemi!” Genya cried as he watched Sanemi head down the hall and to his room, the little not understanding what was going on.

“He’s just getting some rest,” Giyuu told Genya, “He’ll be back by dinner.”

This did not comfort Genya at all as he continued to cry louder.

Giyuu cradled Genya close, bringing the little's head to his chest as he shushed him.

Giyuu was not always the best at calming littles down, it was still a skill he was learning but he was determined to get Genya to stop crying.

“What would make you happy right now, Genya?” Giyuu asked the little in his arms.

“Nemi,” Genya sniffled.

“I know,” Giyuu rubbed the littles back, “he just needs some time to himself.”

Genya whined before he nuzzled into Giyuu.

“How about a bottle, would that make you feel better?”

Genya weakly nodded.

“Okay,” Giyuu said before he stood up doing his bed to hold Genya, something he was only recently getting better at. He carried Genya to the kitchen and sat him down on the counter before he went into the cupboard to grab one of Genya’s bottles.

He filled it with milk then put it in the microwave for thirty seconds making sure to stop the microwave before it went off. After checking the temperature of the milk he grabbed Genya off the counter and brought him back to the couch.

He laid Genya down on his lap then gave Genya the bottle.

The little finally started to calm down as he suckled on the bottle, quiet tears still rolling down his cheeks.

Once the bottle was empty Giyuu placed the bottle on the coffee table then sat Genya upright on his lap. “Feeling better?”

Genya nodded.

“Do you want to color?” Giyuu asked Genya.

Genya shook his head.

“What do you want to do then?”

“Cuddle,” Genya said in a soft voice.

Giyuu smiled then pulled Genya close to his chest again, “we can cuddle.”

The cuddles were quiet. Genya had stopped sobbing and was not just sniffling as he played with Giyuu’s hand.

Giyuu could help but smile as he watched the little, finding it hard to believe that not that long ago Genya was almost inconsolable.

But in the silence, Giyuu worried about Sanemi. His boyfriend looked stressed and worn out. Giyuu knew that eventually Genya would have to go down for a nap and when that happened he would check on Sanemi.

After a while Genya grew bored of Giyuu’s hand and began to squirm in Giyuu's lap.

“What’s up?”

“Bored.”

“What do you want to do now?”

“Bluey.”

Giyuu wasn’t sure if Sanemi would be okay with Genya watching TV as he was trying to cut back the amount of time his brother spent watching it. But right now felt like a special circumstance, so he turned on the TV and put the cartoon on for Genya.

Genya quietly watched the cartoon as he sat on Giyuu’s lap, as he chewed on the collar of his shirt. Giyuu had no idea where Genya’s pacifier, but it was likely in Genya’s room which Giyuu couldn’t get to right now with the little sitting on his lap.

Soon Genya repositioned himself on Giyuu’s lap resting his head on Giyuu’s chest. Slowly Genya was struggling to keep his eyes open.

Giyuu brushed his fingers through Genya’s hair, “getting tired, Genya.”

Genya nodded slowly.

Giyuu smiled, “want to go to bed then?”

Genya nodded again. Giyuu was a bit surprised, normally Genya was fussy when it came to naps, but right now he was being rather agreeable.

“Let's get you to bed then,” Giyuu paused the TV, then stood up still holding Genya then carried him to his room. He laid Genya down in his bed, then tucked him in making sure he had Bingo close by.

Genya immediately began chewing on Bingo’s ear and Giyuu took this as an opportunity to give Genya his pacifier.

“Rest well,” he told Genya softly.

Just as Giyuu was leaving, Genya reached out and grabbed the sleeve of his shirt, “Nemi?”

It took Giyuu a moment to realize what Genya wanted, “Yeah Nemi will be there when you wake up.”

Genya seemed happy with the response, let go of Giyuu’s shirt and snuggled closer to Bingo.

Giyuu flicked off the lights in Genya’s room then crossed the hall

He tapped lightly on the door to his and Sanemi’s room. He waited a second until the door opened.

“Is Gen okay?” Sanemi asked.

Giyuu could tell Sanemi had been crying.

“I just put him down for a nap. But are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” Sanemi replied.

Giyuu frowned, not believing Sanemi, “it’s okay if you aren't okay.”

Then Giyuu noticed Sanemi biting his lower lip as tears gathered in his eyes, “sorry.”

Giyuu quickly pulled Sanemi into a hug, “you don’t have to say sorry.”

“I made you look after Genya, now you have to deal with me.”

“I don’t mind looking after Genya, and I’m not dealing with you,” Giyuu explained firmly, leading Sanemi back into the room and to the bed.

Once they were sitting on the bed, Sanemi pressed himself close to Giyuu, who in turn rubbed Sanemi back.

“I’m sorry,” Sanemi sobbed into Giyuu’s chest.

“It’s okay,” Giyuu said, before kissing Sanemi on the top of his head, “I got you.”

Sanemi pressed himself closer to Giyuu, still sobbing.

After sometime Sanemi stopped crying but still kept himself pressed close to Giyuu.

“Are you feeling better?” Giyuu asked.

Sanemi nodded.

“That’s good.”

Sanemi pushed himself away from Giyuu and was quiet for a moment before softly uttering, “my head hurts.”

“Want me to get you some pain killers?”

Sanemi nodded, “please.”

“I’ll be right back.”

Giyuu left the room to get Sanemi some pain killers and a glass of water.

“Here you go,” Giyuu said, handing the water and pills to Sanemi.

“Thanks,” Sanemi replied before taking the pills and drinking half of the glass of water.

“Can you tell me why you were upset?” Giyuu asked.

Sanemi was quiet for a moment before sighing, “I don’t know. Overwhelmed maybe.”

“Because of Genya?”

“No, Genya isn’t the problem, I am.”

Giyuu grabbed Sanemi’s hand and squeezed it, “I don’t think you're the problem.”

Sanemi was quiet as he looked down at his and Giyuu’s hands.

“I’m always willing to help you know.”

“I know.”

“No matter what.”

“I know,” Sanemi repeated.

Giyuu leaned in and kissed Sanemi, “I love you.”

Sanemi smiled, “I love you too.”

The two laid down in the bed, and eventually they drifted off to sleep.

Sanemi wasn't sure how long he had been out, he just knew he was being woken up by a regressed Genya.

“Hey, bud,” Sanemi said, still half asleep.

“Nemi,” Genya replied.

“What do you need?” Sanemi sat up in bed, careful to not wake Giyuu.

“Cuddles.”

Sanemi smiled then pulled Genya into his bed, “Yeah we can cuddle.”

Genya made a small happy sound as he nuzzled in closer to his brother. And Sanemi just smiled as he ran his fingers through Genya’s hair.

Even if things were overwhelming for Sanemi, or when everything was just too much, he knew he would always have his baby brother and maybe that was all that mattered.
