“So uhm… I wanted to talk about last ni-” Oscar started quietly.
“Don’t. Let’s not bring it up, alright?” The words from Lando’s mouth came out quick and sharp.
“Why?” Oscar asked, his voice sounded even more small now.
“We shouldn’t make it more weird than it already is.” Lando deadpanned.
“I’m not trying to make anything weird.”

Lando has exactly three coping mechanisms: get drunk, get laid, or drive fast enough to outrun his own head. Oscar’s loved him for years anyway, and when something finally happens between them, afterward he learns exactly how big of an avoidant, manipulative dickhead his teammate can be — pulled close when Lando’s unraveling, pushed away the second it means something. Lando spends the 2024 season insisting that their night in Miami meant nothing, right up until a title fight next year neither can afford to lose starts tearing them apart on track as badly as off it. But love doesn’t stay quiet forever. Some hearts only get found by the person who keeps breaking them. This one takes the long way there. -
