Work Text:
After the war against the Titans Zeus had all the monsters who still inhabited the earth banished, leaving the world empty. It wasn't long until he approached me to help create a new species.
Man.
Now, Zeus wanted a race built in the image of the gods that wouldn't be a threat to his throne (and of course no women for Hera would not have had any good things to say about that) so he had me create them out of clay.
I fashioned them by the riverbank, using the clay to sculpt them.
Originally, I had made them in varying colours of green and blue. Even purple. But, unsurprisingly, Zeus wasn't very happy about that and destroyed them. So, I remade them using the skin colours you see today.
Once I had completed them to Zeus’ liking, he had Athena come to breathe life into them and thus man was created.
As all stories go, there was a problem. Zeus refused to give the humans something which they so desperately needed. I had pleaded with Zeus to give man fire for I feared the humans would die without it and yet he still refused.
So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and snuck onto Olympus and towards the central hearth where Hestia sat. I described to Hestia all that was happening with the humans, she listened to my tale and agreed that man needed fire. And so she gave me fire from her own hearth and helped me to bring it down to the humans.
Unsurprisingly, Zeus was mad. And so he had me chained to a cliffside, forced to endure this eagle eating my liver whilst it regenerates for eternity. At least I have a good source of entertainment. Watching the heroes defeat monsters and defy all odds and writing their stories down for you, my dear Reader. Ensuring not one of them is forgotten
