Work Text:

Youngjae was back in Shinyu’s apartment.

The two had broken up seven months ago, in a fight where both were drunk, angry, and determine to prove the other wrong. Youngjae walked out on him that night.

But now, he was knocking on his door again, and Shinyu let him in. Again and again.

They had a system. Once a week, Youngjae would come to Shinyu’s apartment. They would eat together, sleep together, maybe a bit more if they were both drunk and in the mood. Each encounter ended the same, with Youngjae leaving before Shinyu could wake up.

He didn’t know how they had started this system. He was out of his mind the first night, and he was desperate for comfort. In his mind, Shinyu was the easiest person to go to at the time.

Youngjae rapped on Shinyu’s door: once, twice, and then he answered.

Maybe it was the lighting, maybe it was the fact that he wasn’t in the right headspace and had drank a bit too much, but at this moment, Shinyu looked like the most beautiful man he had ever seen.

“Hey,” Youngjae breathed. Shinyu grinned, stepping aside to let him in.

Shinyu tugged him into a kiss immediately, his hand going to grip the back of his head. Youngjae stuttered for a second, before sinking into the kiss. Shinyu gently pushed Youngjae against the front door, not moving his lips away as he did so. The younger sighed, threading his hands between Shinyu’s hair. They stayed like that for a while, before a buzz from Youngjae’s phone ruined the moment.

Shinyu groaned, grabbing the phone and tossing it somewhere inside the apartment. “You don’t need that tonight.” He murmured, tugging him towards the couch.

Youngjae allowed himself to be dragged, smiling like an idiot as he did.

At 2AM, Youngjae quietly slipped out of Shinyu’s bedroom. He’d done this a million times before, always leaving before the sun rose. But this time felt different.

Walking through the halls of Shinyu’s apartment was always nostalgic, but today felt worse than the other days. Every corner he turned seemed like it held a memory, every surface felt like it was pulling him in.

Youngjae shook his head. He couldn’t be doing this. They had split apart and that would be the end of their story.

But why does he keep coming back? It was like he was addicted to the idea of still being with him. Addicted to his scent, his habits, and his stupid face.

Youngjae had to leave before he did something he couldn’t take back.

But every step began to feel heavier than the last. His body longed to go back to Shinyu’s room, to go back to being them.

He paused, standing in the living room. In front of him was the door. An escape back to something he was used to. Behind him was Shinyu, a window to everything he said he wouldn’t indulge in.

He opened the door, sparing one last glance in the bedroom’s direction, before leaving.

Youngjae knew he would come back next week, and he knew that Shinyu would welcome him in. What he didn’t know was how long he could keep pretending he was fine with being “just friends” with Shinyu.
