I know everyone is getting crazy on social media/discord right now but genuinely, is anyone else getting major ick from the sex tape? Like I'm sure matt and jay did not want the world to see their dicks (other than The Banner episode, I know). Even if they obviously filmed something that was edited and "meant" to be seen, it's not the same as giving the world permission to see it. I hate the idea of the world seeing even a perfectly innoncent text message I send to my friends, I can't imagine what it's like for the world to see me having sex.

I've got a few anon asks about this so i thought i'd answer them all at the same time. Between the "Watch it if you really want, just go see Tony in August."-gate and the xtra interview i feel like matt and jay basically know they can't contain the spread of The Tape 🙈 so yep, here's my recap if you (like many) are curious
The video basically starts with this shaky handheld camera going in through a door, and you see Matt in a blue t-shirt sitting in fron of his monitor watching footage (really similar to Dirties). And yes, the footage is Jay jerking off, though to put it bluntly you don't see a lot of dick (but you see a bit of dick). And the Matt-who's-filming-jay is saying stuff like "keep going" and "don't be shy, look into the camera for me"🥵.
And all this is sort of shown to us on the monitor being watched by Real Matt, and then the Real Jay-who's-filming-matt (who's watching jay being filmed by matt) goes up to him and puts the camera down. Because of the depth of field you can't see what they're doing but you can hear some bodies moving and some moaning 🥵. The camera is still focused on the monitor and you're still watching Film Jay jerking off but it's hard to hear the dialogue so you don't know who's talking, Film Matt and Jay or Real Matt and Jay
FYI this is where one of the Matts drops the infamous f-slur because at some point Jay mumbles something sounding all shy and blushy and Film Matt says very clearly, "that's a f****t thing to do" 😳😳😳 LOL
And then it fades to black, and then we cut to the world of the footage (if that makes sense) where you see Film Jay and Matt sitting on the bed from ANOTHER POV from across the room. I think the implication is that they're about to shoot the footage we see earlier because Jay's in the same black boxer briefs and Matt's holding a camera. They're talking kinda inaudibly (the muisc is really loud here) but Matt says what sounds like "next time you can film me." (So this is where the "jared was also there" conspiracy theories come from but tbh it looks like they just filmed this by putting a second camera on a tripod). And then cut to black again.

Jay gives the issue its due consideration. Matt is nervous. He is, obviously, out of his element. Even ignoring the whole gay aspect of it, the Jay aspect of it, Matt's just never been at home with this sort of intimacy. One of Matt's past partners made the mistake of grumbling to Jay about it, as if Jay wouldn't turn around and tattle on her immediately to Matt. (She was gone a month later.)
Jay is a straight-forward, uncomplicated kind of guy in many ways. If Matt is uncomfortable, out of his element, where would he feel more comfortable? What is his element? The answer is immediate, obvious and pure.
When he suggests it to Matt, Matt thinks he is joking. When Jay doesn't laugh, Matt thinks he is crazy.
"It's not a big deal," Jay says.
"It's... I mean, a sex tape is--is--it's a uh, pretty intense thing for a--a couple of forty year olds."
"Not really. It's just us and a camera. We do it all the time, Matt."
Matt's gaze is hot when it sweeps over Jay's face. His voice, when it emerges, comes rough. "Not like that."
He's thinking about it, though. Jay can see that delicate machinery behinds his eyes whir. He slips in close, hand on Matt's bicep, slides it up under the sleeve of his t-shirt.
"It's not that different. Think about it," he says, lowering his voice, smiling. "You can direct me."
"Yeah." Matt swallows. His fingers touch Jay's waist, tentative. The idea's taken root, Jay can see, and now the flowers are rising. "I could. You'd let me?" He licks his lips. "Anything I say?"
"Sure, Matt." It's easy, it's always been easy, to let Matt have this. To give it to him. He's done it all his life. "Just stay off Hearthstone while we work."

Jay McCarrol: It’s funny, yeah, even though it’s not, ah, officially released anywhere. His label reached out to me and cleared it. It was a surreal email to get, let me tell you. And I've gotten a lot of surreal emails lately.
Matt Johnson: I know everyone has the same question like, ‘why did you do it? Why would you film yourselves’ and I-I-I just want to explain myself by saying, that’s kind of what Jay and I do together. I know it sounds dumb. Like, I know, right? But we met as kids because we both loved filming stupid videos of ourselves and that's what we've been doing ever since. It’s just what we do together. So when we started, um, started this new thing between us, I’ll be very honest, I’ll be very candid here, and say that it was really scary for me. Maybe one of the scariest things I’d ever done. And when you’re scared, you reach for what’s familiar. Filming the video together, talking about the music together — that was how we also, how we talked about our relationship.
