That morning when Esme walked into school she immediately noticed glares being directed her way, whispers as she walked by, and anyone she tried to talk to ignored her. It was only when a group of her friends approached that she found out what was happening.
"YOU'RE the one who ratted us out! What the hell, Esme?!"
"What-?"
"Faye told us everything! Don't play dumb."
"But I-"
One kid made a beeline for Esme and shoved the girl. "Shut up! You know what you did."
Esme stumbled back, barely managing to stay on her feet.
"DON'T TOUCH ME!" She screeched, punching the kid straight in the face.
All hell broke loose.
Esme and the other teen got into a brawl, with most kids gathering around and screaming for the latter to win. Meanwhile, the teens who knew better immediately scurried to class to avoid trouble.
Esme was kicked in the gut, causing her to bend forward over herself as a wave of nausea hit. She held her stomach weakly as the crowd shouted in victory.
It was only after she gathered her bearings again that multiple teachers finally came rushing over and broke up the fight.
The two teens were both sentenced to detention for the fight, but Esme still believes she was unfairly punished.
