Emmett's pace slowed before coming to a full stop. He was terrified, but—f**k—he needed to do something to give the others a chance to escape.
The teachers and guards also skidded to a stop as a thick wall of vines suddenly shot out of the ground in front of them, blocking their way to the escaping students.
One guard formed a ball of water in their hand and used it to start slicing through the vines.
Once they finally made it through, they were met with the sight of Emmett left behind as all the other teens ran for their lives.
One teacher ran at the boy and he blocked their attack with another vine. Meanwhile, the guards had tried to slip past him. Emmett didn't hesitate to sprout a huge thorn bush in their way. But he made himself vulnerable from the other side as another guard tackled him to the ground.
Emmett knew if he didn't stop them soon, they'd no doubt catch the others. So he took a deep breath and from his own body sprouted a tree so large that two guards and three teachers were impaled on it, effectively killing them immediately.
The roots sprung up from the ground and made an obstacle course out of their only way forward, slowing the remaining living ones down.
