"I can't be with you, Connie. I-" Marion's voice broke as she looked away, tears prickling at the corners of her eyes.
Connie felt her heart sink as she took Marion's hands but the crying girl snatched them away, crossing her arms against her chest.
"…I'm sorry, but… But my parents found out. This is the last time I'll be seeing you."
Tears started to slide down Marion's face and Connie thought she was going to cry herself at the news.
Connie always knew Marion's parents were homophobic, but she never thought they would find out.
There goes her plans of eloping with Marion and never telling the latter's family. Now they can't even see each other!
Connie wrapped her arms tight around Marion, not giving the girl a chance to escape even when she tensed and tried to pull away. "Please, just let me hold you one last time."
Marion soon relaxed in Connie's grip and let her tears fall freely, sobbing into the taller girl's shoulder.
Connie's grip loosened and she switched so one arm was around Marion's back and one cradled her head. Tears started to roll down Connie's cheeks too as she held the shorter girl.
There they stood, crying into each other's arms as it felt like the world came crumbling down.
