The Delibirds and the Beedrills

Summary:

A very awkward misunderstanding leads Mollie to try and explain some things to Liko and Dot. More awkwardness ensues.

Work Text:

“AND THAT’S ALL FOR TODAY’S VIDEO! Don’t forget to like and subscribe, Nidothing fans!”

Liko stopped the video recording on the camera right on cue, and instantly all the exuberant energy left Nidothing’s body like the flip of a mental switch.

“Finally.” Dot said, slumping over in the center of the room from heat exhaustion. They’d been filming for hours at this point, and the poor girl was just about ready to pass out inside her suit.

This recent video had been a nightmare to complete. She even had to get Liko to help with the filming just so she could get this video out on time.

“Thanks for helping out with filming, Liko.”

“Of course! I-I’d do anything for you Nidothing!” Liko cried out, eyes gleaming with joy.

Were it not for the obscuring costume, Liko would’ve seen Dot blushing profusely.

OK, so that compliment was for Nidothing, not me… but still… she mused, before she shook herself out of her thoughts. Daydreaming about her best friend/crush could come later, when she wasn’t suffocating in this heat.

But she could hardly be blamed for it. After spending a whole year apart with zero contact between the two, Dot was just happy to be with Liko again, and she was especially relieved to find out that Liko hadn’t stopped being a fan of her.

“Well, time to finally get out of this suit…” Dot paused as she noticed Liko hurriedly pulling out a long strip of cloth before tying it around her eyes as a blindfold.

“There! I can’t see anything!” Liko declared proudly. “Nidothing is real and there’s no one inside! If my good friend Dot were to magically reappear in front of me right now, it would be completely unrelated!”

“...seriously?” Dot asked, halfway between sarcastic and weary.

“LET ME HAVE MY FANTASY, DOT! I mean uh… Nidothing!” the girl demanded, yelling blindly at the wall.

Whatever floats her boat. Dot thought as she began unzipping the suit. The bulky thing slipped off, the air suddenly touching her skin again after hours of sweltering heat as she extricated her limbs from the costume.

Unfortunately her foot happened to catch on the suit right as she was stepping out and in a shock she found herself suddenly toppling forward.

“L-Liko WATCH OU-” Dot cried out in alarm right as she collided with the blindfolded girl. The two of them let out a scream as they collapsed onto Dot’s bed with a loud crash of gangly limbs and panicked yells.

“D-Dot! Are you OK?” Liko cried out, blindly feeling for her friend as she came to her senses.

It was a good thing she had her blindfold on, because otherwise she would’ve seen that Dot’s face had stopped barely an inch away from hers, an expression of open mouthed shock frozen on the purple haired girl’s face as her brain raced to catch up with the situation.

She was on top of her.

She was ON TOP OF LIKO. Staring down at her beautiful face and her pretty, delicate features, framed by locks of deep blue hair… the blindfold tightly wrapped around her temples leaving her so adorably confused… the smell of her shampoo… the sight of her fingers gripping the soft bedsheets…

Dot’s face turned into a red hot furnace, as any common sense in her brain melted away. Her mind began to race, speeding through a hundred panicked thoughts.

Oh Arceus, why did this have to happen while I’m so SWEATY??? I hope she doesn’t notice. She smells so nice… wait, that’s creepy. I really missed seeing her face… What are you DOING DOT?! JUST GET OFF OF HER!

Her brain overloaded like a computer processing a 3 hour long video titled “Dot’s Gayest Hits” leaving the poor introvert a frozen, blushing mess, her eyes locked on Liko’s gorgeous face as she struggled to shake herself out of her flustered paralysis.

In a way, Dot was beyond grateful that Liko was blindfolded, because the thought of anyone seeing her in this humiliating, pathetic state of emotional meltdown was a nightmare beyond words.

And then the door swung open.

“Hey, I heard screaming, are you kids alr-” Mollie froze as she took a step in, her face draining of colour in less than a second as she took in the sight in front of her.

It took a painfully long eternity of awkward silence and back-and-forth empty stares before Dot processed just what all of this must’ve looked like to the ship’s doctor.

She was drenched in sweat.

Her jacket was on the floor.

And she was lying on top of a blindfolded Liko in her bed.

Dot practically flung herself off of the bed, crashing into the ground in a panic. “Wha… I… wha… WAIT!” She sputtered helplessly, choking on the words as her face turned so red it could’ve been considered a medical emergency. “THIS ISN’T- I MEAN WE’RE NOT! WE-”

No matter how much she rambled and stuttered, the utterly horrified look on Mollie’s face remained, and Dot realised with horror that there was no way for her to explain this away.

At that moment, she genuinely considered taking a dive off the edge of the airship.

Wait! Liko’s better at these things! Yeah! I’m sure if I get her to explain-

“Uh… N-Nidothing, have you gotten your ‘outfit’ off yet?” Liko whispered shakily as she pulled one eye free of her blindfold, only to be greeted with the sight of a mortified, red-faced Dot and an even more mortified Mollie, staring at her in slack-jawed horror.

“Um… what’s wrong guys?”

The two girls sat in the sick bay, scarlet faces buried in their palms as they attempted to swallow their embarrassment, while Mollie paced back and forth, muttering to herself in a panic while occasionally casting glances at the two of them.

“M-Mollie, it wasn’t what it looked like-” Dot stammered, breaking the silence.

“Y-Yeah!” Liko chimed in. “W-We were just filming a video for the internet-”

The doctor’s eyes went wide with horror as she whipped around with a thunderous expression on her face. “A WHAT?!”

“NOT THAT KIND OF - A NIDOTHING VIDEO!” Dot screamed, burying her face in her hands yet again as her ears burned.

Mollie let out a sigh of relief. “Thank Arceus… you kids are gonna give me a heart attack.”

“Mollie, I-I’m sorry, it wasn’t-” Liko began, but Mollie simply raised a finger to silence her.

“No, Liko, there’s no need to apologise…” she explained slowly and gently, like she was babying a child. “You’re not in trouble.”

Somehow that did nothing to comfort Liko.

“And I mean, this isn’t that much of a surprise,” Mollie continued. “I mean, we’ve all noticed how close the two of you can be, it was obvious there was something more between you two…”

“Wha-huh?!” Liko blurted out, heat rising in her cheeks once again.

“Wait, what the hell do you mean by THAT?” Dot yelled in a panic, her expression matching Liko’s.

It was then that Mollie pulled up a stool and sat down in front of them at eye level. Dot felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. She knew that move all too well. The stool was the prelude to “Let’s have a serious talk” that grown ups would pull whenever they were about to talk her ear off for an hour. Somehow she didn’t think that Mollie of all people would be one to pull off that move - she’d always seemed like one of those Cool Adults™ who didn’t do this sort of thing. Yet it was clear that right now, she was trying really hard to be the Serious Adult™, a thought that filled Dot with inexplicable dread.

“Listen,” Mollie started, in as gentle a voice as she could force. “I… want you to know that what you two have been doing is… completely natural and you do not need to be ashamed of it.”

It was clear to both Dot and Liko that Mollie was trying to put them both at ease, yet the unnaturally gentle way she talked seemed just WRONG coming off of her usually sharp tongue, and the slow and carefully calculated word choices only served to make the two even more anxious.

“After all… you’re both… teenagers… living in the same place…”

“Oh no…” Liko’s eyes began to widen in horror as she began to see where this conversation was heading.

“And you’ve definitely been… growing up, both mentally and… physically…” Mollie continued, trying to hide the panicked look in her eye that showed how she was practically begging for someone to interrupt her.

“Please make it stop…” Dot muttered as the agonising levels of cringe were beginning to cause her physical pain.

“And I know how hard it must have been for you two being apart for a whole year… I mean, you must have really missed each other...”

For a brief moment Dot was shocked out of her mind-numbingly flustered state.

Her thoughts suddenly cast back to the year they spent apart. All those lonely nights in her room as she reminisced on her memories with the Rising Volt Tacklers. All the times her heart ached to see Liko’s face again, to hear her cheerful, supportive voice. The hours she would spend scrolling through the comments of her newest videos, ignoring her fans in the hopes of finding just one by “Sprigatito_Love”.

Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, Dot noticed Liko’s gaze on her. What was that in her gaze? Concern? Regret?

“I mean…” Dot muttered. “I did… really miss…”

“So it’s only natural that, now that you’re back together under the same roof after so long, you’d have a hard time… controlling yourselves.” Mollie continued.

“WHOA WAIT-” Dot shouted, face flushing yet again.

Why is she talking about us like we’re feral Pokemon in heat?!

“And with all that, it was only a matter of time before you’d start… experimenting with one another.”

Liko let out a horrified squeak as she curled up her knees to hide her scarlet face.

“Mollie,” Dot said, her voice trembling as her face grew redder than she thought was physically possible. Cold sweat poured down her face as she pleaded, “I am begging you not to say another word.”

The resident adult inhaled sharply, seemingly pushing all her cringing away with a deep breath. “No.” She said with newfound steely resolve and a piercing, determined look. “As an adult, and the ship’s doctor, it is my job to ensure that you kids are well informed enough to… experiment… safely and consensually.”

A painfully awkward silence followed as Liko and Dot were both seized with dread over what might happen.

A silence that was broken as Mollie swallowed hard. She leaned forward, trying desperately to sit in a casual pose, and gave the two yet another forced, shaky smile, before speaking in that honeyed, sickeningly gentle tone.

“L-Let’s have a t-talk about the Delibirds and the Beedrills”

Horrified screams shook the Brave Olivine.

“OH THANK ARCEUS WE’RE FREE.” Dot gasped as she emerged from the sick bay into the cold night air.

Liko crawled out after her, eyes devoid of light. “Goodbye, my innocence…” she whispered under her breath as her eyes twitched.

The two of them collapsed on the deck of the ship, staring endlessly into the starry night sky as they struggled to deal with the mental weight of three straight hours of Mollie explaining everything there was to know about leading a healthy sex life.

Turns out the ship’s doctor knew a lot more about lesbian bondage than either of them had ever wanted to consider.

“That was… a lot.” Liko mumbled.

“I wish I could purge my mental hard drive of the past 3 hours.” Dot groaned.

Yet there was one thing Mollie had said that she couldn’t shake.

...you must have really missed each other…

Dot glanced over at Liko. Those big blue eyes, those soft features, that little sunny smile.

A year had passed since she last remembered her, yet she’d barely changed.

She was just as beautiful as she was the day they’d said goodbye.

“Hey… Liko?”

“...Hm?”

“Did you… miss me?”

The blue haired girl turned to Dot with a quizzical expression, and suddenly Dot regretted ever saying anything ever.

Ugh! Now I have to explain myself! This is so embarrassing I just-

With scarlet cheeks, Dot took a deep breath, and before she could overthink things, poured her heart out. “It’s just… you didn’t call. Or message. Or even leave a comment. And… I missed you a lot.”

Silence.

Painful, agonising silence.

Dot couldn’t bring herself to look at Liko. She felt like the whole world was spinning out of control around her. She held back the urge to throw up as her mind began racing to the worst possible outcomes.

Then came her voice.

“I’m sorry, Dot. I was just… in a really bad place.” Her voice was thick with emotion, and as Dot finally gathered the courage to look at her… she noticed the tears in Liko’s eyes.

“It… hurt too much to even think about… all this.” Liko said, holding back a sob. “Of course I missed you. I… I thought about you every day. I wanted to talk to you, to-”

Suddenly, Liko found herself wrapped in Dot’s arms, her face buried in her shoulder as the two of them embraced, losing themselves in the flood of emotions that had been building up for so long.

Words became unnecessary. They stayed in each other’s arms for a while, just taking each other in. Though neither of them would admit it, they’d both been starving for one another’s touch. They wished they could’ve stayed like this forever, but eventually, they had to pull away.

Their faces were barely an inch apart, just like they were in Dot’s room. This close up, Liko could see both of Dot’s bright violet eyes, gazing back at her so lovingly and tenderly that she felt like melting into a puddle right then and there. The way the moonlight illuminated Dot’s features, lighting up every little freckle in silver… that gentle, reassuring smile that used to be such a rare sight on her face…

Dear Arceus, I’ve missed her.

“Well… next time you’re in a bad place you could always come over to see me, alright?” Dot whispered softly.

Time stopped as their eyes met. Liko wasn’t even sure if she was breathing anymore. All she could hear was her heart pounding in her ears as every thought was replaced by the sight of Dot’s brilliant smile.

“I’m always here to talk.” she said, slowly and gently, and Liko couldn’t help but hang onto every last word that left her lips. “My bedroom door’s always wide open.”

Those words lingered in the air for a painfully long, quiet moment, before the unintentional innuendo of what Dot just said finally clicked for the both of them.

“Wh-WHA?!” Liko cried out, her face overheating.

“W-WAIT! NO! FUCK! I DIDN’T MEAN IT LIKE-” Dot screamed, before she buried her blushing face in her hands.

“AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!”
