Leo didn't get a nat 20 in persuasion this time

Summary:

Leo breaks into Kal's room because his puppy-dog eyes didn't work on the royal advisor this time. They cuddle and read a story. The end.
I swear it's better than how that sounds.

Notes:

Would you believe me if I said I've been trying to get this out since the beginning of the year? This fic fought me so hard oml.

Anyway, I thought I'd try to get this out before Sina has the chance to traumatize us again. Speaking of; Sina and Perie if you're reading this, Oh my Gods, thank you so much and also, you two are very awesome even though you've made me cry before.

I hope this isn't horribly OOC, I tried to do my homework on them, I swear.

I am a fully fluent English speaker; grammar is just an absolute beast sometimes. I apologize if any mistakes have slipped through my four different re-writes.

Work Text:

The prince sat curled up in his bed with a cup of warm lavender milk and a novel, humming quietly to himself as he read. Outside heavy rain slashed against the windowpanes causing them to rattle with the force.

Kalceran was about to turn another page when he began to hear an unusually incessant tapping noise that didn't match that of the rain.
He raised his head to look for the source and was greeted with the pleasant surprise of his boyfriend perched on the angular ledge of the windowsill.

Leo grinned when he saw Kal looking at him, looking for all the world like a sopping wet self-satisfied rat.
Kal scrambled to his feet, just barely remembering to set down his cup before stumbling over to the window on half numb legs clad in slippery silk socks.

"Gods, you're soaked! What were you thinking?! It's raining pitchforks out there!" Kal scolded as Leo clambered inside, the prince's upper body and face becoming soaked in the mist of the rain as it sprayed against the glass. "How did you even get up here?!".

Leocoril looked sheepish as he opened the little leather pouch at his side so that a very ruffled but dry Toby could crawl out onto his opened palm, the two of them watching as Kal padded off to his bathroom to retrieve a towel.

"May I?" Kal asked once he returned, reaching toward Leo's soggy curls. The brunet nodded, leaning into the gentle touch with a small sigh.

"I climbed. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be in the rain." Leo explained, giving Toby a couple of pets before letting him down and watching as the mouse podded over to one of the obscenely stuffed silk pillows on the window seat beside them.

Toby turned in a slow circle before curling up and closing his eyes with a content chirp. Kal's fingers combed through Leo's hair with slow deliberation, untangling the slight knots with one hand as he patted it dry with the other.

"Toby wanted to come with so I let him." Leo continued, nuzzling into Kal's hand. "I think he's only here for the pillows though.". Kal laughed, the sound pure music to Leo's ears.

"I'm going to see if I can find some dry clothes for you, okay?" Kal asked, running his fingers through Leo's curls to check the dryness and leaning in to press a little peck to Leo's freckled cheek.

"Mmkay," the brunet agreed, his exertion beginning to catch up to him as he slumped back into the pillows behind him with a tired sigh.

*~*

It wasn't long before Kalceran returned, a bundle of silky looking fabric folded in his arms. "I'm not exactly sure if these will fit, but they're the biggest ones I could find.". "I'm sure they'll be fine." Leo said, catching the bundle that Kal tossed to him with ease.

Kal gave Leo a little smile before swiftly averting his eyes and busying himself with shifting around the books on a shelf. Leo stood up and dressed in record time, leaving the front of the shirt loose because he had no idea how to string it.

Kal turned around and walked over to his boyfriend, gentle fingers reaching out to string the shirt with easy practiced motions, finishing the job with a bow. Kal gave Leo's chest a few cursory pats before looking up at him with eyes the color of a clear lake. "All good?" Kal asked. "Or is it too tight?".

"Perfectly fine." Leo assured, taking one of Kal's hands in his and giving it a gentle squeeze.
Kal smiled as warm as sunshine, leaning in to give Leo a kiss. "Great.".

Leo's hands drifted down, resting comfortably on the dip of Kal's waist. "Sooo...". Leo cleared his throat uncomfortably, glancing away to avoid his boyfriend's curious bluebell eyes. "Are we sleeping or...?".

Kal's face lit red and he glanced away as well, his hands sliding from Leo's chest to his forearms. "Um,". It was the middle of the night, but they also hadn't been alone together in what felt like ages.

"I'm not really tired." Leo spoke up, turning back to face Kal, his face now looking only slightly like a lobster. Kal chewed his bottom lip, glancing over to his bed. "Me neither.".

Leo followed Kal's gaze, then, in a stroke of mischief, gathered the blond up in his arms, grinning at Kal's delightedly surprised yelp. "You're really light." Leo commented, walking over to the bed with Kal in tow and flopping down onto his back.

"Really?" Kal asked, looking genuinely surprised as he rolled off his boyfriend and propped himself up with his elbow. "Mhm," Leo answered, rolling over onto his side so that he could look Kal in his -very pretty- eyes.

Kal moved to snuggle closer, resting his cheek against Leo's sternum with a content sigh. Leo began to gently comb his fingers through Kal's sunshine-gold hair. "What do you want to do?".

Kal made a soft humming noise, leaning into Leo's touch. "I was reading a book; I think you might like it. Want me to read it to you?". Leo nodded eagerly, twisting around to grab the small leather-bound book.

Leo studied the pretty red cover with interest. "Looks interesting.". Kal blinked with surprise, a small fond smile curling his raspberry lips. After several seconds with no response or movement, Leo tilted his head ever so slightly. "Are you okay?".

Kal let out a small chuckle, a dimple blooming in his right cheek as he took his book from Leo. "Yeah, thank you Leo.". Leo grinned back, his own dimples rising to the surface. "Of course.".

*~*

After a little shifting they found a position that was both practical and comfortable, with Kal sitting up against the headboard so that he could read properly and Leo's head on Kal's chest.

Leo closed his eyes and snuggled even closer, rubbing his cheek to silky fabric and breathing in the warm raspberry and lavender scent of what or rather who Leo had long since begun to think of as home.

"Comfortable?" Kal asked, his voice soft, the fingers of his free hand absently combing through Leo's thick chocolate curls. "Yeah," Leo replied, so content it was bordering on sleepy, his expression like that of a cat basking in a sunbeam.

Kal smiled and pressed a soft kiss to Leo's forehead. "I'm glad.".

Notes:

Well, if you've made it this far, here's a big ol thank you to you for reading my very first published fic. I really appreciate it.

Your kudos and comments directly contribute to how many hugs my Leo plush will be receiving upon arrival.

Anyone got any guesses as to what Kal's reading? I was envisioning some sort of fantasy-romance and the idea for the cover came from this really pretty copy of 'Through the Looking-Glass' that I have.

Can anyone tell that I read danmei from my descriptions or is it all in my head? Genuine question for any fellow danmei readers.
