Work Text:
Ice skating was the only thing that made you feel like you were in control of your own life. The way all your problems disappear in the simplest swings of your heels on the ice would never disappoint you. That’s why working at the only Ice Rink in your city just felt right. It had to be yours, you know? You had just taken a break to drink a cup of water when your friend, Dick, called you.
“Hey, are you on the rink?” he said, and you could hear the grin on his face.
You and Dick met at the Gotham Ice Skating Arena. He was with a redheaded girl, Barbara, and you all quickly became friends as you helped her set the accessible chair into the ice. Grayson, in all his gymnastic abilities, would easily be the best skater, if it wasn’t for you, as you remind him.
“Always. What do you need?”
“Can you teach my brother, Jason, how to skate?” you hear a mumbling angry sound on his side, followed by an “Ouch!” of your friend “I mean, make him company. He knows how to skate.” another slap, this time louder “Stop it! He wants to learn a few tricks. C’mon, nothing's ever good for you!”
Jason. The man who has not left your mind for a minute since he appeared one day to take a really drunk Grayson home. He, as you very well remember, smiled kindly at you, making your heart beat faster, sounding nothing like the angry and pissed off man Dick always told you about.
And he’s so damn handsome. You accepted so fast you’d think they didn’t hear your voice through the phone. But not even a minute later, an excited Grayson waves at you, while a quite timid Jason is hiding behind him. You could even think he’s small if you look at him like that, behind his older brother like a kid.
“He’s all yours. I’ll wait at the cafeteria. Are the snacks new?” Dick says, kissing your cheek as he goes. He makes a sad face when you deny.
It’s just you and Jason now. He’s already all geared up. Helmet, Knee Braces and black Ice Skate Guards. His nose is red, like the tip of his ears, even though he has a lot of clothes on, he even has a red beanie inside the helmet, messing even more his black hair. You can’t help but notice his pupils are dilated, and his breath is kinda short.
“Are you cold? I can get you more clothes…” you say, and he looks like snapping out of something.
“I’m good. Thanks. Just wanna skate.” he tries to sound cool, but coughs at the end, making your hand move to his arm on a reflex. He blushes. “I…Well, I know how to skate. On rollerskates. I just…”
“Wanna learn how to do it like an ice skater?” you tease, getting into the rink, he follows.
“If you wanna teach me.”
“Of course!” your smile is so bright, he could turn off the lights on the Arena and still, he would find you in the dark.
You begin teaching him the basics. How to go forward, which he succeeded, before falling only twice, and how to stop, which he already knew. Then, you teach him how to fall without hurting, and he’s a pro at that. You even clap for him, which makes him smile, feeling more confident.
A couple of songs play in the background while you skate around with him by your side. You skate slowly until he can follow your normal fast rhythm in the ice, and when he does, you hear Dick woohooing him on the outside of the rink.
“Wanna try swinging?” He looks at you, curious. “Like this!”
You put on full speed, leaving Jason behind. You swing into the rink like your body is in a fluid motion. Just basic swings, moving your body to the left and right as fast as you can, as you go backwards on the rink. Jason observes you. His green eyes so open he could swear they would fall off his skull.
As you stopped in front of him again, smiling and breathing heavier, he stared. You suddenly feel like a show off, and you start to apologize. A deep sound coming from his neck could be easily put as a chuckle.
“You’re amazing. How can you apologize for that?!” he points at all the places you’ve been, like he’s imagining you there again, and you blush, a timid smile blooming into your face.
“You can do that too. Dick told me you’re also good at gymnastics. You can do a flip on the ice, did you know that?”
“Teach me.”
After guiding him step by step, how he should take an impulse, how to fall back into the rink, you feel he’s ready. He nods, starting to speed up just like you did. He takes an impulse, and as he jumps, he looks like a bird in the sky, his mortal flip looking as neat as a professional would.
He sets his feet on the ice, swinging back with his arms up cheering. You run over to him with a wide smile, and forget the amount of time you need to set your heel onto the ice for it to stop in front of a person, because his smile is so pretty it makes you forget everything else.
You stumble onto him, making him fall back first onto the rink. He holds your hip as you fall, amortizing it into his chest. You sit up as soon as you can, and you regret it as soon as you do.
With your legs on both sides of his hip, you sit right onto the bottom of his stomach, your hands trying to find balance on his hard chest. You stared at him, into his dilated pupils, his chest going up and down as he also took a moment to look at you.
You hit yourself mentally, like punches and kicks into your whole nervous system, as you squeak your skates into the ice, making the worst sound you ever heard.
“I’m so sorry, Jason.” you offer your hand and he grabs it, almost making you fall again because of how hard his grip is.
“It’s no trouble. I mean, I would’ve been here so much earlier if I knew this would happen.” he says, and his face goes blank. As yours do too. “Like, learning how to skate. And to flip. In the ice.”
“Oh, okay. I knew that.” you try to laugh, looking down. But you look too much down, and see…Well. His dick. It's a little hard. He notices, and blushes even harder, trying to hide his face in his beanie.
You look over to outside the rink, not finding any sign of Dick anywhere. You sigh, being glad your friend, his brother, isn’t here for what comes after. You smile a little, approaching him as any instructor would, you thought. Touching his arm.
“Are you into me?” you draw circles into his arms, and he gasps, taking a look at your pretty serious face and realizing lying wasn’t getting him anywhere, so he mumbles a little “Yeah.” “That’s why you are here today?”
“Can’t a man really like ice skating?” he tries to ease the mood, your eyes make him swallow dry. “Yes.”
“Can I help you with that?” Jason’s eyes fly open, and you giggle “Not about that! About the ‘into me’ part. Unless…”
“No. I wanna do it the right way. I, um…Would you like to go on a date with me?” he says it all in one breath, like a weight has been taken off his shoulders “I think you’re so great, and I would love to take you out.”
Your heart melts, you open your best smile, holding your inside urges of spinning and jumping like a kid.
“Where will you take me?” you smile, putting your hand up his shoulder.
“Whenever you want.” Jason finds the courage to find the hand that’s on his shoulder and kisses it, looking into your eyes.
