Work Text:
Sirius is shivering.
He’s always shivering these days.
It doesn’t matter what the distance is between him and Azkaban.
It doesn’t matter that he’s a free man.
It doesn’t matter that no one is going to take him back there.
It doesn’t even matter that James (and Harry) are always around to remind him that he’s not alone.
He always falls back into that… mindset.
He’s back there even when he’s currently wrapped up in James’ arms.
“Love? You alright?” James questions, clearly awake now.
“Yeah, sorry if I woke you.”
“You didn’t,” James assures him. He pulls him closer to him. “What’s the matter?”
“Just shivering… memories of Azkaban,” he admits.
James gives him a sad look and hums. “You’re safe from that place, now.”
Sirius hums. “I know. You’re my safe haven, you’ll always keep me safe, it’s just… sometimes in dreams…”
James rubs his back. “I understand.”
“I wish I could just … make it go away, but it’s hard.”
“I’m always here when you need me.”
Sirius gives him a smile and a kiss. He feels better already, maybe enough to get some sleep. “Thanks, love. I know.”
“Good.”
