Work Text:
She was sitting on the roof with her older sister.
"You turn seventeen in a few minutes. What are you going to wish for?" Kori's older sister and best friend, Elle, asked her.
"Peace, maybe. Love, money, a job. That kind of thing. Nothing extravagant. You know mom's rules."
"Yeah, I know. But if you could wish for anything. Anything at all, what would it be?"
She doesn't notice the clock tick past midnight.
"To live among the stories. To go to one of my realms of fantasy and have my own part in their story. That would be my Wish," she finishes, and starlight swirls around her. For just a second, she looks like a deity.
"No. Kori, what did you do?"
"I- I don't know."
"I think we both do."
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to." They both stand there in disbelief for a moment.
"Bye, Kor. I'll miss you," Elle manages when she finally speaks.
"Goodbye, Ellie," she felt the pull of the magic at her back, "I have to go."
She comes to briefly on the forest floor. She doesn't recognize this place. She brings her hand to her head and feels something strange. Her ears are pointed. She doesn't even have time to ponder this before she passes out again. Not long after, she is stumbled upon by an elf and a man. Confused by an elf lying unconscious in the woods, they bring her with them to their destination. She sleeps many days (with her eyes closed) before she begins to stir.
