Work Text:
Byakuya, much to Makoto's dismay, had been right about Kyoko's intentions with her gifts.
A part of him is grateful, since without his colleague's input, who knows how long it would have taken Makoto to realize what exactly was happening.
The other part of him is extremely irritated, because Byakuya won't stop rubbing it in at any given moment.
“I'm trying to give you advice, Naegi– do you think it's wise to ignore it?...” Byakuya glared at the omega. “You're so unbelievably dull, I'm surprised you can even hold down this job.”
Makoto rolled his eyes. “I thought you were finally warming up to me,” he said.
For a week he could have sworn Byakuya behaved friendlier towards him. He's been holding the door open for Makoto and bringing his lunch to his desk.
The tall blond scrunched up his nose at the notion. “As if. It's rather improper for an alpha and an omega to be friends, don't you agree? Or, are you perhaps easy?” he had teased, voice low and flat.
Great, now Byakuya is back to being borderline sexist. “You know, if you have an issue with me and Kirgiri-san you can just say so.”
“Why would I take an issue with your relationship?” Byakuya questioned and Makoto stupidly thought he was being serious for a second. “I don't have any problems with the fact that you two are constantly pawing at each other– always touching one another in the break room when you think no one is looking. No, I'm completely fine with the insistent PDA.”
He's caught off guard by the long-winded reply. Sure, he knew Byakuya didn't like Kyoko's courting– but he hadn't known the other male took so much of an issue with their affection.
Makoto is unable to respond as Kyoko had appeared by the taller alpha's side. “Excuse me,” she gently said, then walked past Byakuya. “I think it's time you go back to your own office.”
Byakuya froze in her presence. “I was only offering your little pet some insight.”
Kyoko ran her fingers through Makoto's hair as she sat on his desk. “You've out stayed your welcome. Though… I suppose if you want to watch–” she sent a smirk in his direction, “I won't stop you.”
His face turned red at the implication. “I have no desire to be a voyeur.”
“Then you should leave.”
The two alphas exchanged glares. It's a challenge to see who backed down first– to Makoto's surprise, it's Byakuya who lowered his head.
“You disgust me,” he said as he finally left.
Since the conversation he's put a stop to their break room escapades. Alphas are territorial, which essentially means– physical claims over what they perceive as theirs. Kyoko had been slightly upset over it, but quickly agreed to end the PDA with the knowlege Byakuya saw.

He feels fine, really–
Okay, maybe not perfectly fine but he can still do his job… despite the fact that he feels like puking every other minute.
The fluorescent lights hum incessantly and it causes his head to throb. Is he coming down with something again? Makoto is prone to getting sick. Just last month he had to take a week off from work since he caught the flu from his sister's girlfriend ( thanks a lot, Fukawa )
There's a half-eaten breakfast sandwich on his desk, and the smell alone has him doubling over. It's the tipping point, because this time he actually vomits. He tries to grab for the trashcan by his feet but his movements are sluggish so he really only succeeds in throwing up on his shoes and the carpeted floor. Gross, someone will need to clean that up– and the entire building should probably switch to tile. He'll have to write a letter to corporate.
Footsteps approach his cubicle and he can tell that they belong to Byakuya as he can hear the distinct sound his dress shoes make. The following scent of mint is another confirmation, it makes him want to puke again–
“You should go home…” he says, the usual malice in his voice is gone and is instead replaced with concern.
Makoto shakes his head. “I'm fine! I probably just ate something bad.” He knew eating that three day old take-out would be a bad choice, still he went through with it.
Byakuya lets out the loudest sigh he has ever heard from the blond, which is impressive– considering how often he sighs around Makoto. “That's not it. Do you seriously not know?” he cryptically asks.
“Know what?” He manages to say through the nausea. Another unsettling wave courses through him and he's back to puking, this time into the trashcan. It mostly lands into the intended target… mostly.
“When was your last heat?” Byakuya questions him.
He scoffs in offense. “I don't see how that's any of your business.”
Makoto does take a moment to think about it though, despite his outrage over being asked such an invasive question. Wasn't it a month ago? No, that would mean he took days off of work when he hadn't.
It's been at least two months– two months since he spent it with Kyoko.
“Huh…” Makoto dumbly responds. He really dislikes it when Byakuya is right.
A handkerchief is delicately pressed against the corner of his mouth. “You're an idiot.”
He can't disagree because he gags again. Byakuya reaches for the trashcan even though it's covered in his own sickness, and places it into Makoto's lap. The alpha keeps it there as he rubs Makoto's back.
Someone gently knocks on Makoto's door to announce their presence. “Is he okay?” Aoi asks.
“He will be. Can you call Kirgiri-san?” Byakuya requests.
“Yeah, of course.”
The beta quickly leaves to make the call.
Byakuya remains by his side and for once, Makoto finds some comfort in the alpha's proximity. He doesn't smell too bad when he's not purposely making his scent overpowering. It's nice, a little bit sharp but Makoto likes it, it's an edge that belongs to Byakuya. So uniquely him.
He closes his eyes and leans into Byakuya's chest. “Sorry,” he mumbles.
There's no reply but a gentle hand over his shoulder.
Here's to the joys of fatherhood– he's so going to need a long bath.
