Chapter Text
Slowly Jax cracked open his eyes and was greeted by the blinding lights on the ceiling. First thing he noticed was that he was covered in a soft blanket. Strange, he thought Caine never had bothered with making them feel things (other than pain) before. Next he noticed he was in a hospital, more specifically a hospital bed.
"What the fuck Caine." he muttered. It took him a little while to process that there was no annoying censor noise. His eyes finally adjusted to the bright room and when he looked down on his gloved fingers, there were no gloves but instead a human hand. Weird he thought, must be a dream or maybe digital hallucinations.
Footsteps slowly approached, and the door creaked open. There was a nurse with long ginger hair tied up in a bun and she had amber eyes that shone in the light.
"Oh, your awake," she said "Nice to see you Felix."
Felix.
"Huh, are you talking to me?" He mumbled back
"Right. You probably recognise the name Jax better."
Who the fuck is this person.
"Are you like a NPC?" He asked.
"No, I'm a human."
"But ho-"
"You escaped Fe- Jax I've been informed about the circus by a previous member and we found you and have been watching you for the four years you've been in a coma." the nurse explained
"We escaped?"
"Yes you did we are working to find the others so far we have found you and Ashley, circus name Zooble."
"Zoobies here?"
"Yes, they woke up yesterday."
It took a little while for Felix to take in the information. They escaped. The others are out there. Pomni is out there. He had a good look at his body, his arms which were no longer purpleand had no stupid yellow gloves on his hands- god he hated those gloves. And then he realised something, he still felt the all to familiar weight on his head where his rabbit ears where in the circus.
"C-can I have a mirror." he asked.
"Of course." the nurse replied, handing him a mirror.
He grabbed the mirror and sure enough among his scruffy hair were two purple rabbit ears.
"WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL?!!" He shouted, he didn't mean to shout but he did anyway
"Calm down you just woke up."
"What are these!?"
"Oh well if someone stays in the circus for a long time it causes the body to adapt slowly in what it thinks it should look like, see your body got used to your rabbit avatar hence your ears and your paws."
"My what-?"
He looked down at his feet, and of course instead of regular human feet there were massive, purple rabbit paw.
"How?" He asked
"We are still working out why it happens, but don't worry it's not just you."
"How am I meant to hide these outside?!"
"I'm not sure, a hat maybe and extra large shoes."
"Ugh, this is stupid, where's Zooble?" He said, still not accepting his new features but desperate to change the topic.
"On the floor below is but at the moment its probably best if you stay in here, I'm going to get some other nurses to check everythings ok."
"This is so lame, I'm going to sleep."
"Suit yourself."
An hour later he opened his eyes, and was again greeted by the initial shock of the hospital before (again) coming to the realisation he had escaped. The nurse was still there. She was watching as if she was waiting for him to speak.
"Uh hi, long have you been there?" he asked
"Not long, I was just waiting for you to wake up so I could tell you Ashley wants to see you."
Oh no. Felix wasn't sure if he was prepared to face Zooble after all the horrible things he did to them and Gangle. They probably hate him, they probably should. However he owned them a apology, even if they didn't forgive him. He didn't deserve their forgiveness anyways. He fidgeted with the end of the blanket unsure of what to say.
"Ok, where are they?" He finally answered.
"Outside, I'll bring them in now."
The nurse came back into the room followed by a tall figure with black hair with dyed pink and turquoise highlights. They were still in hospital clothes like Felix but they had been given a dressing gown to put over the top.On their head, were two mismatched antenna, one a yellow T shape and the other a cyan lightning bolt. They looked Felix up and down until they finally spoke:
"Looks like you got it worse than me Bunny boy."
"I'm sorry but my ears and paws are kind of the pinnacle of masculinity."
"Hmpth, you could say that again."
"Anyway, Zoobie, I mean uh- Ashely or what ever you want to be called, I'm sorry for all the horrible shit I did to you in the circus."
"You shouldn't be apologising to me, Gangle is the person you should be apologising to when we find them, but thanks anyway. And for the record I prefer Ashley,"
they said getting seated in a nearby chair,
"God it's weird hearing you swear."
The nurse who Felix hadn't even realised had still been in the room spoke up.
"*Ahem*Do you want me to leave you two alone for a bit?"
"That'd be great we've got a lot of catching up to do, thanks." Ashley answered
"No problem I'll be back in about a hour."
The door closed behind her, leaving the two former circus members by themselves.
