Derek knew this wasn’t Avery.
He had the looks, but his mannerisms were from the King.
It’s alright, they’ve been like this for a while. The King got stuck inside Avery’s head, unable to use his powers like he used to do in Derek’s Minecraft, only able to control Avery whenever he pleaded.
Unfortunately, Derek and Avery never found a solution to this, so the knight was stuck with seeing the King in Avery’s body from time to time.
At some point, Derek just accepted it. He grew to go along with the King’s presence in his life.
“I was planning to go out with Avery today.” - The knight announced, closing the door of the slime guy’s room.
The King raised his head, that plain smile on his face. It was so different from Avery’s genuine smile, or the smile his best friend does when he’s trying to hide his worry. This smile was filled with falsehood.
“I am aware.” - The god answered, getting up in that polite manner of his, walking towards the door. He opened it, gesturing for Derek to go first. - “But I desired to see how this ‘going out’ of you and my vessel is like.”
“We’ve agreed on you not ruining the days Avery and I have together.” - The knight stated, not moving from where he was.
“It is not like you have some ability to choose, my knight.” - The King stated, going through the door since it seemed Derek wouldn’t move.
“I’m not yours.” - The human stated, following along and closing the door. As soon as he heard the faint sound of the object closing, Derek stopped walking.
The eldritch being didn’t say anything about the other’s phrase, only walking in silent steps towards the exit of the house.
“Avery seems to be thinking about a field he has seen in his visions. Would you like to do what he is desiring to do?” - The King said, turning his eyes to analyze Derek’s posture.
Derek didn’t move an inch, but he clenched his fists in anger. - “You’re saying that Avery wanted to visit this field you’re talking about with me, but you’re not allowing it?”
“Believe whatever you think that satisfies you, my knight. Just accept the fact that today, you are spending your time with another Avery.”
“You’re not another Avery, you’re the god that ruined our lives.” - The knight said, holding himself back from screaming at the other.
The King didn’t answer, only continued walking. After a few minutes, Derek started following him.
~
It wasn’t difficult to notice when the King was controlling Avery. The slime guy had those anxious mannerisms that Derek learned to love, those little things that the knight always paid attention to.
The King, however, behaved like a noble. Always sitting correctly, talking in that manner that didn’t have any slangs unless he’d mentioned something that Derek or Avery said. He didn’t behave like a human, sometimes.
Like he’s doing right now, lying in the grass with his arms opened and perfectly aligned in parallel with each other. It was weird.
And yet, Derek couldn’t simply stop looking at him, because it was Avery’s face. No difference. It was the face he loves so much. How could he stop looking at that?
The King eventually got up, pulling the knight for a walk through the grass. The being never laughed, but he smiled, and he held Derek close like he was a jewel that would break with any interference.
Derek was already broken, but it seemed the King didn’t want to break him more unless needed for the eldritch god.
Even so, the human relied on this closeness, because it was Avery’s body. His mind, though knowledgeable, couldn’t comprehend the difference between Avery and the King when he looked at him.
“You are distracted. Is Avery on your mind, or is it something else?” - The King asked, turning to Derek with eyes that showed that he was testing the man.
“You and I both know that you already know what I am thinking.” - He said, feeling Av- the King’s hand coming closer and slowly getting up on his arm.
“It seems that you are confused about my new body. Your brain cannot separate me from your precious Avery.” - The god stated, another hand coming to Derek’s other arm. - “Why is it a bad situation for you, my knight?”
“Because you’re not him, not right now. Avery’s in the back of your mind, somewhere where he’s probably listening to this.” - D3rlord3 answered, gazing intensely at the King. He knew it wouldn’t work, but he wanted to show the god that he had no fear. - “I don’t want to associate Avery with you.”
“However, we are one now. It is not possible to separate me from your… best friend.” - The King stated, and Derek could hear a faint laugh coming from his mouth. - “You have accepted that I am part of your life, why can you not understand that I and Avery are the same?”
“You’re not…” - D3rlord3’s voice faltered as he felt the King’s left hand come to his shoulder and the right one be put on his chin. - “If you were one, you wouldn’t be able to switch the control of this body with Avery.”
“This is what you perceive of our relationship, but I do not see it as that.” - The god explained, pulling Derek’s chin closer to his face. He could feel the hot breath from his human’s lips. - “I see it as a fusion, an agreement. It is time for you to understand.”
D3rlord3 didn’t move, way too shocked by whatever was happening. His body tingled from head to toe, and he felt like passing out.
When the Ki-Avery’s lips touched his, Derek couldn’t control himself. He pulled the other closer and kissed desperately, like that would be the last moment of their lives.
The King allowed him, allowed Derek to put all his frustration in this make-out session. He knew that the knight was trying to believe it was Avery that he was kissing, not the King controlling the slime’s body.
But it didn’t work, not when Derek opened his eyes and saw that glint on Av- the King’s eyes. Something inside him made him kiss the god again, this time, aware that this wasn’t his best friend.
They passed minutes like this. Every time they stopped kissing, the knight would gaze at the eldritch’s eyes and kiss him desperately again.
D3rlord3 only stopped when he felt a tear coming from his eye. He gazed at the King again, backing away. His mind was going crazy, thoughts getting messed up with each other. His face was burning.
He didn’t regret what had happened.
“It now makes sense to me why you humans love kissing so much. I could feel your energy, your desire, your fear, and your anger from this simple touch. You are impressive, my knight.” - The King said, pulling Derek closer again.
D3rlord3 pushed the King away, walking out from the field they were in. He just wanted to go home.
~
Derek woke up to a very worried Avery with a teacup on his hands.
“Oh, sorry- D-Did I wake you up? I was just going to leave this tea for you here.” - Avery explained, putting the cup on top of the bedside table.
“No… I… I’m okay. Yeah.” - The knight said, sitting straight on the bed and picking up the teacup. - “I’m sorry for what you had to see.”
“N-No! It’s okay! Seriously! It’s nice that you’re… Hmm… Solving your things with the King!” - The slime guy tried to soften the mood, only to make it worse. - “Fuck… Sorry.”
To this, Derek laughed. Even if everything, he couldn’t be angry when he had Avery so close to him. - “I wouldn’t call it solving; if anything, it just made things worse.”
“… Yeah, yeah.” - The other answered, sitting on the bed.
A silence came by, only to Avery to turn his head to D3rlord3.
“The King said you were thinking of me when you kissed him… I-I’m not able to use the infinite knowledge like I used to because that motherfucker controls it now, so I-I just wanted to be sure-”
“I was.”
Avery raised his eyesbrows in surprise and muffled a scream. - “You…”
“I’m not going to lie to you, Avery. I deeply love you, more than words can express. I… I really care about you and, if you wanted, I would live with you for the rest of our lives, even if I had to handle the King.” - Derek said, backing away from Avery. He doesn’t know what the slime guy thought of him, simply because he blocked the information from Avery in his mind, unless it was something he discovered from being his friend.
Avery didn’t say anything; he just leaned in and pressed his lips onto D3rlord3. This kiss was soft, gentle, filled with care. Because Derek cared for Avery, unlike whatever he had with the King.
“I… I want to be with you too.” - The slime guy said, giving that genuine smile that Derek loved so much.
Words weren’t spoken. Avery just laid on the bed, with Derek following along.
He didn’t think that the King would be the reason he and Avery would get together. But he didn’t want to think about whatever complicated feelings he had with the god right now. He wanted to enjoy being with his love.
