Work Text:

It was an average night in San Francisco. The sun had set, things were slowing down, and Simon was in his apartment getting ready for his date with Grace. They’d decided on a casual dinner at a local Mexican place, something both good and easy to afford. It wasn’t their first date by a long shot, but they were still pretty early into the relationship. They had met when Grace accidentally became a makeshift tour guide for an elementary school field trip, and made awkward yet polite small talk with the security guard when the kids left.

Simon smiled to himself as he remembered their meeting, the way Grace lit up while talking about the different exhibits, answering the kids’ questions like it was the most natural thing in the world. It was then he learned that Grace was a teacher himself, so answering kids’ questions was literally his job. Wait, what was he doing? Oh, right. Gotta go pick Grace up before it gets too late. Simon got one last quick look at himself in the mirror, nodded, then grabbed his keys to drive to Grace’s apartment complex.

The drive was short, only around 5 minutes, but the restaurant was a bit of a drive, so Simon preferred the car. He pulled into the complex’s parking lot, running up the stairs to meet Grace at his apartment. He knocked once, twice, until Grace opened the door with a smile. “Oh, hey! I wasn't expecting you until 6! But do you see me complaining, huh?” He dragged Simon into the apartment, saying that he'd be ready to go in just a few minutes.

The few minutes passed, and Simon looked up as he heard the tell-tale sounds of Grace's Converse on the floor. “Ready to go-” His question was stopped dead in its tracks when he saw Grace in his entirety. He was wearing his favorite cardigan, the one with the foxes on it, paired with a black shirt and a long dark blue skirt he'd gotten from a thrift store the previous weekend. All in all, he looked hot as hell.

Simon must've been staring for a little longer than intended, because Grace had to walk in front of him to get his attention. “Earth to space cadet. Simon, you alright?” “Holy fuck, you're beautiful,” Simon muttered under his breath. “I'm sorry?” Grace asked, his smile never fading. “Nothing, I said nothing,” Simon said a little too quickly. “We should probably go,” he suggested, taking Grace's hand as they left the apartment.
