   Summary

   Harry returns to Hogwarts for his eighth year, bone-tired, directionless and with a new cigarette habit. The last person he expects to find common ground with is the girl who tried to have him killed. But, he supposes, coughing isn’t the only side-effect of smoking.

   *Two caveats*:

   - JKR is an unrepentant bigot, actively funding harm to trans folks. I’m uninterested in your readership if you give your financial support to her and her fascist gender essentialism.

   - Smoking is very bad for you. This fic is not intended to romanticise smoking.
