Come On, Spiderman, Say Your Stupid Line ("I Love You")

Summary:

Will held him the whole time, his arms wrapped tightly around the other boy's upper body, telling him that everything will be fine eventually.

Maybe, but not when you were commiting a sin.

Not when you were weak.

Not when you had feelings for your best friend

Who was a guy.

Mike Wheeler and Will Byers are in a secret relationship. Or... something like that. And that not only because Will is Spiderman.

HEAVILY inspired by two classmates of mine (yes, both are guys ofc), because they literally are Byler. You'll see!

ALSO HERE'S A PLAYLIST TO LISTEN TO WHILE UR READING!! I tried to put everything in the right order, but since this work isn't finished yet, it might not be perfect yet! For now, you could probably listen to it on shuffle (just skip the romantic stuff ahahhaha)

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5R9tidDY4ltWAfLh1Y9Rqh? si=Pmm4Yeq0TKa1Qtr83145sw&pi=WQebIDKrQ_WDC

Notes:

Heyyy!! My first byler fic, I'm so excited!!

Like I already said, this is HEAVILY inspired by my classmates(I hope I won't mischaracterize) because the "Will" of those two someday said he thought he was Spiderman? Whatever...more about them in other notes!

Have fun reading and leave kudos and comments if you like!

(college byler btw!!)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"Not so fast!" "Just hold on for one more second!"

It was a warm autumn day and the sun was just about to set. Will Byers (aka Spiderman, yes, the Spiderman) and his (more or less) boyfriend Mike Wheeler were swinging above the roofs of their small hometown Hawkins.

Or well...Will was the one swinging. Mike was holding on for dear life, his arms wrapped tightly around Will's neck, who was holding him in one of his arms.

"What do you mean one more second?", he exclaimed, almost panicking. "Just...one more second!", the brown haired boy responded, searching for a roof to land on.

And only seconds after, they both landed gently on the roof of Mike's small apartment. Mike, still in Will's arms, blushed, suddenly becoming aware of the position he's in.

"Uh...I think you can drop me now."

The other guy, who just got rid of his mask, grinned. "Oh, but you look so adorable like that!" "Will..." "Alright, fine."

After softly dropping his boyfriend back on the safe ground, he suddenly grabbed his hips, pulling him in.

"Still really adorable, though."

The other boy smiled faintly, looking away, afore he carefully locked his lips with Will's.

Tenderly asking for entrance, Will's tongue brushed Mike's lower lip. The other boy eagerly let him in with a soft sound leaving his lips.

Will's phone rang. Lucas.

With a groan, he responded,"Goddamnit, Lucas. What is it this time? Did Max break up with you again?"

"Haha, really funny, Byers. No, she didn't, believe it or not. I'm calling you in favor to let me over. Or more like...all of us. If you know what I mean."

Mike shook his head, without saying anything. They were not supposed to know they were together right now.

Their relationship...well, it was complicated. Not exactly complicated, but nobody was supposed to know that they were, well...being more than friends. In Mike's opinion, they weren't more than friends with benefits. Sure, he liked kissing Will but he didn't like Will like that. It wouldn't be right. And even though it was the twentieth century already, homosexuality still wasn't exactly what everyone in Hawkins liked to see. Especially the religious kind of people Mike's parents belonged to. Surely, most of their friends would accept it. If they were dating. But they weren't and they didn't want to tell their friends about their...benefits yet.

Will, getting Mike's clue, told Lucas,"In mine and El's cramped house? Yeah, no. How about our spot?"

By "our spot" he meant a small hut near to the Lover's Lake. Nobody came there anymore. Except for Eddie, who once almost had set it on fire while playing DnD. Only God knew how he had managed to do that.

They couldn't see it, but Will guessed that Lucas nodded because now he said, "Yeah sure. In ten minutes?" "Sure. Goodbye-" But he was interrupted. "Wait! Have you seen Mike? I tried to call him but he didn't respond."

Now Mike was gesturing hectically that he apparently was asleep.

"Uh... he's...asleep? Asleep! Yeah. He's asleep."

"Oh, alright then...can you try to call him though? It'd be nuts if he wasn't there."

"Yup. Yeah! I'll call him! Goodbye, Lucas!" He quickly hang up, letting out a long exhale.

"He totally knows!", he then said. But Mike only huffed out a laugh. "Lucas? Hell no, he's so oblivious!"

Will sighed. "You really think so?"

The other smiled warmly. "I really think so. Ride to our spot?"

"Obviously. Hop on!"

With Mike in his arms, Will - now Spiderman again - swung towards their spot to meet the party.

At the Lover's Lake, around three minutes from the hut, Will dropped Mike off, putting on a sweater and some jeans over his suit, before taking off his mask, too.

As they arrived at their spot, Robin yelled, "Hi, Byers! And... Wheeler. Y'all were on a date or somethin'?"

That made all the others turn around. Lucas said, confused,"Nah, but she's right... where the fuck have you been, Mike?"

Embarrassed by all those people watching him, and Robin seemingly being close to making another comment of him and Will being on a date, he stuttered, "Uh... of course we weren't on a date! And uh...I was asleep! Just like Will said. I mean- of course he told me that. That he told you that I told him that I was asleep." He cringed. Did he really just say that? Surely everyone believed him.

For some reason they actually did. Except for Robin, who just held back a laugh.

"Okay then. Did y'all bring any food? I'm starving!", Dustin groaned.

"I already told you, I brought chips, Skittles and coke!", Lucas told him, annoyed that he was so...well, stupid.

Our friends being chaotic as ever, Mike thought, smiling.

In the corner of his eye, he could see that Will was talking to Jonathan right now. El was there too. Her hair was braided and she was wearing some kind of cardigan that reminded Mike of a flower. As she catched him looking, that warm smile of hers decorated her lips. "Hey, Mike! Come over! We were just-" But Will hit her playfully, stopping her from finishing the sentence. El laughed. They were probably talking about stuff he wouldn't understand, Mike thinks. But he walked over to them, sitting down on a beanbag next to Will's.

"What were you trying to tell me?", he asked Eleven. Unnoticed by Mike, Will shot a glare at her.

"We were just... talking about Will's new painting!"

Will's new painting? Why didn't he know about that?

"New painting?", he asked.

Will shot another glare at El. Which she ignored.

"Yeah... for my birthday! He asked me if I wanted a small canva or a bigger painting and I told him that a small canva would be enough but he is so stubborn!"

Made sense. Will loved making presents, especially big ones.

One time, he had given Mike three books and a painting. That was for his nineteenth birthday. Last year it were even one painting and two small canvas. And some other stuff.

"Oh...yeah. He so is." Noticing Will's (faux) annoyed face, he continued, "Stubborn and stupid. Especially stupid. Remember when you were dating Carlton? God, such a bitch."

"You can't just call him that!" "Yes, I can! He only really loved you when he was drunk, remember?"

They just left the hut, getting into their Uber. Everyone else except Dustin, Max and Lucas had left already.

The car started driving.

"Mike- " "No, I'm speaking. I mean, yeah, he did love you. Sort of. He was super jealous of us. Even El!" "Mike, please... he's dead to me. Okay?", the brown haired boy interrupted softly.

Mike sighed. "Yeah, alright. I just really hate him. He wasn't a good boyfriend to you."

"Yeah, I know. I know. He's gone now." He carefully reached for the other's hand, squeezing questioningly. Mike squeezed back, smiling.

"He's just a friend!" "Oh really? Then why's he looking at you like that? Why's he here all the time?", Carlton yelled.

"That's our shared apartment! And looking at me like what exactly?"

Even more annoyed now, his boyfriend said, "Like he wants you! Like you're his whole life. You're mine, remember?"

Close to tears now, Will let out a "No. No, I'm not. I'm done with you."

And all he can remember now is that Carlton shut the door behind him and never came back.
