Just a Small Accident

Summary:

After an accident that leaves the Traveler in a coma, Mavuika and Xilonen spend two weeks together and end up getting closer.

Notes:

This is my first fic, so I hope it isn't too bad. I also wrote all of the chapters at 3 to 5 am, so that's fun.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“So… you almost killed the Traveler… and then came here?”

Xilonen looked at the Archon. The ocelot woman wasn't really surprised, but closer to tired.

It was a normal Friday afternoon. Calm, warm breezes, gentle sun rays. The type of day Xilonen would spend napping. Until the Archon herself showed up with the Traveler passed out over her shoulder after what she said was a “small accident”.

“I didn't kill her!”

“Oh, so she blacked out over your shoulder for fun?”

“Well… we were on my bike, I tried to go off a cliff and fly a short distance. You know, that thing you built it to be able to do, but…”

Xilonen raised her eyebrow when Mavuika said “But”.

Mavuika continued, quieter and more embarrassed this time.

“But I ran out of fuel…”

“You WHAT!? I put an obnoxious gage right in the middle of the damn dash!”

The Archon didn't even argue, she knew it was her fault.

Xilonen sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose before looking at the unconscious blonde slung over the ruler's shoulder.

“Is she okay? Did you take her to the Archon Statue? That usually heals her from anything. That's why she decided to help me with testing from time to time. Lumine seems oddly proud of her durability.”

Mavuika set the blonde down on the couch. Xilonen's house wasn't the largest around, but she liked it. It was covered in various tools and stones, but it was familiar. Lumine and Mavuika had each spent several nights there. But it was usually to help Xilonen with something in the forge.

Mavuika sighed, finding herself a chair from the dining table and bringing it over before continuing.

“Yeah, I bolted with her after her head hit the rocks. It did the magic glowy stuff, but she didn't wake up.”

“She WHAT!? Why didn't you say she hit the rocks!?”

“She's taken worse shots from the abyss, you know that. A few rocks couldn't really be what does the Traveler in.”

Xilonen's eyebrows furrowed as she looked at the blonde on her couch. She knows it was true. Not even the Traveler was spared during the war. If anything, she got some of the worst of it and still kept getting back up. So seeing that same girl blacked out from head trauma was deeply unsettling as a concept.

Really? This is her breaking point? Xilonen thought to herself.

The ocelot woman spoke again after what felt like an eternity of oppressive silence.

“I'll keep her here, call for doctors for now. And… don't get yourself killed either, okay?”

She looked at the Archon, and something about Xilonen's tone hit the ruler deeply. Maybe it was the concern Mavuika didn't hear from many others, the one Xilonen didn't show to many others. But it was hitting Mavuika like a ton of bricks.

The Archon blushed, suddenly looking very interested in the plants in the window before making her way to the door.

“Yeah, I'll leave her with you…"
