Chapter Text

“Yo, Bakugo! You’re up to bat!” Kirishima, very joyfully, hollered from the pitching mound to the blonde in the dugout.

Bakugo sat up from the metal bench and grabbed his bat, and stepped out into the field, his cleats slightly sinking into the dirt. He stepped over to the base and bent his knees, and readied his stance.

“Bakugo, you’re scaring the shit out of me, man! Don’t look so dead inside!” Denki, the (somehow) neon blonde laughed from the dugout.

“SHUT YOUR TRAP OR I SWEAR I’LL SHOVE MY BAT DOWN YOUR THROAT, HEAR ME?” Bakugo broke out of his silence and returned to his usual ‘I’m going to yell at you all day’ attitude.

Kirishima whistled sharply, directing Bakugo’s attention back to the task at hand, batting practice.

Kirishima was a fast pitcher, and Bakugo knew his friend wouldn’t go easy on him. It made a fire of excitement burn in his chest as he saw Kirishima ready to pitch.

Bakugo took a deep breath and dug his shoes into the dirt, bent his knees, and completely focused on the ball.

The wind up was quick and the ball was barreling towards Bakugo in a matter of seconds, he gripped his bat tightly and let out a sharp blow of breath as he heard the ‘tink!’ Of the ball hitting the bat.

Bakugo sprinted to first base and once he ran over the base, he slowed down and let his breath come heavy and rough. No one was out in the field, but Bakugo still needed to practice running.

A sound of claps and cheers came into Bakugo’s ears once his head cleared from the rush of adrenaline and he saw his team giving him thumbs ups and smiling wide at him.

Bakugo loves these guys with all his heart, but would rather die than admit it.

Once everyone finished batting, the sun was setting and leaving a cast of orange across the field. The team gathered up, and their coach, Mr. Aizawa told them they did well in his typical monotone voice.

“Denki, I know you are excited when you’re up to bat, but pay attention and know when it’s a ball, and when you can actually get a hit.” Mr. Aizawa commented, Denki nodded.

“Kirishima—“

The voices of his teammates and coach slowly faded out of his ears as he slowly began to get increasingly more tired and angry about nothing. He wanted to go home and be alone.

“Bakugo.” Mr. Aizawa’s voice cut through the thoughts and the blonde snapped out of it, giving himself a hard time about it in his head for being so childish and zoning out.

“Talk with me after practice, alright?” Mr. Aizawa said calmly. Bakugo nodded.

“Yeah, sure.” The blonde grunted.

Bakugo packed up his bag and walked over to where Mr. Aizawa was sitting on the bleachers by the dugout.

“What do you want?” Bakugo said roughly.

“I want you to be team captain.” Mr. Aizawa said blankly, acting like it was something boring or casual.

“What the hell? Where’s this coming from—?” Bakugo’s face tensed.

Being team captain was in fact not boring and not casual. It made Bakugo’s frustration increase even more with the lack of emotion or care in Mr. Aizawa's words.

“You are a good leader, despite your explosions of anger, the team listens to you. You are our star player along with that as well.” Mr. Aizawa added.

Bakugo’s jaw clenched.

I wanna go to my fucking house and not listen to any more bullshit. Bakugo’s brain barked.

“Think about it, okay, kid? Tell me your choice by next Friday.” Mr. Aizawa stretched his back and jumped down from the bleachers and patted Bakugo’s shoulder.

Bakugo nodded, biting the inside of his cheek.

He grabbed his backpack and immediately went straight for the school cause before he could go home he had to piss. He stepped in and noticed all the lights were still on, and tons of students were still in the commons.

The musical is starting rehearsals. Bakugo’s mind remembered.

Bakugo sat his bag down outside of the door and went into the bathroom to do his business.

As he was washing his hands, he heard the most godlike voice come from the stage and god it gave Bakugo goosebumps. He turned around quickly to find out who the hell this voice was, and his heart dropped a bit.

Deku.

When was the last time I talked to him..? Can’t remember. He seems to be doing okay. He’s quite handsome…

Bakugo froze in shock of his own thoughts.

Fuck no.

He dried his hands and immediately grabbed his earbuds from his pocket and put them in so he wouldn’t hear that annoyingly good singing voice and see who it was coming from and get those weird thoughts again.

Bakugo stole one last glance before he left the school’s front doors, and saw Deku’s curly green hair pulled up into a ponytail.

And he saw Deku’s emerald eyes looking into his.

Oh shit.

I need to get to bed because I think I’m actually losing my mind.

Bakugo walked home with a painfully warm feeling in his gut that he didn’t really know how to feel about.
