Notes:

Hi gng^^!

This first chapter is js gonna be word building and character building (like stated in the tags) maki and reader won’t interact until later unfortunately!

I’ve changed some of the things within the Kiki’s delivery service universe though to make things fit better in my opinion (also reader has a bit of lore that’ll be discussed later on)

Happy reading!💜

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

You quickly shut off the radio you “borrowed” from your brother.

Tonight was going to be the absolute perfect night, you were sure of it! Fate was clearly on your side.

you breathed in the cool air that came down from the sky and sat up on the hill of grass you were currently staying atop of.

You walked back down, then jumped over a broken wooden fence, you held your dress up to avoid the fabric from snagging on anything.

Your boots stepped through a puddle as you started running toward the dirt street and waved quickly toward a passerby on their bike.

“Morning!”

“Hi!”

You chirped back as you continued sprinting. You ducked underneath another broken fence this time, it being a white one that belonged to your home.

It has green growing all over the roof in a charming sort of way. Vines of flowers wrapped around wooden pillars in the front of the house.

Flower bushes passed by from the front yard as you stepped quickly toward your porch to wake up your sleeping companion.

“Nighty wake up! Tonight’s the night!”

Nightshade, your cat perked up a bit as you ran toward the open window of your big sister’s green house.

You took notice of the old woman, Ms. Dora sitting at a small table near where your sister was brewing some potions through a couple beakers.

“Oh hello Ms. Dora, hey Elaine it’s gonna be clear tonight! And the forecast said there was gonna be a full moon.”

“I thought I told you to stop borrowing brothers radio without letting him know first, [Reader].”

You ran into the front door of the house and made your way toward where Elaine was.

You navigated through the messy apothecary, making sure not to trip on anything.

“He doesn’t mind!”

You said back, once you were beside your sister at her station. You turned toward Ms. Dora and curtsied politely.

“Good evening.”

Then you turned back toward Elaine.

“It’s going to be the perfect night for me to leave! The weather sounds amazing.”

You exclaimed, dusting off your apron.

“H-huh?, but I thought you said next month is when you’d leave!”

Your sister exclaimed clearly confused.

“Yeah but next month might be cloudy! It needs to be perfect when I leave.”

Then you ran off not leaving much room for arguing, Elaine’s potion exploded in its glass container leaving a black cloud of smoke leaking out of it.

“Hmm? What on earth is [reader] going on about, Elaine?”

Ms. Dora spoke out, Elaine sighed explaining your family’s age old tradition.

“In our family when a witch turns, 16 she leaves home for a year to begin her training.”

The old woman chuckled.

“What a scary sounding thing for a young woman to go through. I couldn’t imagine ever leaving at such an age.”

She said and Elaine agreed.

“I know, she seems so young it’s terrifying to think anything might happen while I’m too far to help.”

Elaine had a tone of weary as she spoke.

“I remember when you came to this town, a young girl no older than 16 herself took on the position of head-witch.”

”yes but [reader] barley has any idea what she’s doing!”

Ms. Dora chuckled again, Elaine just sighed.

“I suppose she has excelled at flying but when it comes to potions she has no idea what she’s doing! I just can’t help but worry..”

“Young people are just like that I suppose”

Ms. Dora said back amused by Elaine’s dilemma.

“Come on! We HAVE to leave when the time is perfect nightshade!”

You said while hurriedly throwing clothes and other essentials into your coral pink bag.

“Uh—- Nuh uh! It’s better if we stick around for a month and play it safe [reader].”

Nightshade spoke back while lazily laying on your bed, watching you pack messily.

“Okay but what happens when I stay around longer and find some cute guy to date? 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙣 what’ll we do huh?”

Nightshade groaned and rolled her eyes

“I’m going to push my paws together and pray to whoever listens that you aren’t being serious!”

She exclaimed, as you grabbed a red tin out of your bookshelf.

You heard the sound of a car outside of your home and you suddenly hopped right up when you heard you brother, Ren.

“Ren!!”

You exclaimed and went up to your window immediately.

“REN! guess what?? I’m gonna leave tonight!!”

You yelled down at him, he was climbing his car that seemingly had camping supplies on top.

“W-what? Tonight?”

He yelled back up in clear shock.

“Mhm! There’s a full moon!”

“Well yes but we were supposed to go camping this weekend!!”

“Sorry!”

You retreated back into your room hastily to continue packing.

“[reader] wait!”

Ren tried getting your attention again but inevitably got his foot attached to the rope keeping everything intact on the car, making it all tumble down. Ren winced at the sight but figured he could fix it later.

“Yes grandma it’s me—- [reader] will start her training tonight and I just wanted to let you know. Yes tonight I just said that.”

Ren said on the phone down stairs, the sound drowned through the halls and upstairs to where, Elaine was helping you get dressed.

She helped you pull over a black dress boarding on navy, over your head. it’s plain and has no detailing to make it look pretty at all. The sight made you frown in the mirror.

“You look stunning.”

Elaine said while flattening out any creases.

“Lilac would’ve looked prettier on me! Or white—-“

“Witches have worn this colour for a very long time, My dear”

Elaine cut you off with a serene voice as she knelt down to sew up the hem off the dress that seemed to be faltering.

You huffed while brushing your hair.

“I just don’t like it I guess..”

You complained, Elaine kept sewing.

“The colour of your dress doesn’t matter, what truly matters is the heart inside of you.”

You smiled, her words always make you feel better.

“Well I’m going to be the very best witch I can!”

“Just follow your heart and keep smiling.”

Elaine stood up and placed a hand on your chest, where your heart rests.

“Mhm!”

“And be sure to write home as soon as you’re settled.”

“Okay!!”

Elaine existed the room, making way for Ren to come in.

“Oh ren! Can I please take the radio? Elaine didn’t you say the radio could be something I bring??”

Elaine nodded half way down the stair case.

“Yay!”

You jumped in joy, While ren sat on bed, wresting both of his elbows on his knees and looked at you.

“Wow you sure do all grown up!”

You giggled and twirled around making the dress poof up.

“Ta-da!!”

Ren chuckled along with you.

“I remember when you were just a little girl.. hey just remember if things don’t work out you can always come back okay?”

“And come home a failure?! BLEUGH!”

You stuck your tongue out at him.

“Make sure to write us if you have the time okay? I don’t want to have to worry about you all the time.”

You nodded and smiled softly at him.

“Ooh bring us back souvenirs!”

“Find a pretty town—- one near a forest or the ocean!”

Your friends surrounded you as you nodded along with their requests / demands.

“Uh huh!”

“I’m so jealous you’re gonna have so much fun!!”

You shook your head in an expression of mock seriousness.

“I’m not just going for a good time ladies, to be a good witch means I have to be away from home for a year.”

Everyone laughed warmly, Elaine stepped up with her broom.

“[reader] it’s time!”

“Kay!”

Replied you as you ran over to her, your feet padded against the grass.

“𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙨 the broom you’re going to take?”

“Yup! I made it a couple days ago!”

“Dear that broom is far too small to be reliable, I’d prefer it if you took mine.”

“B-but that one’s old and dusty! I like mine more.”

You pouted as Elaine kept insisting.

“That isn’t a bad thing, it just means it’s good amongst any weather. Now [reader] please just take it.”

“I agree with Elaine, yours is nice but hers seems better.”

Chimed in Nightshade, she was perched on your duffle bag.

You grumbled and swapped your broom for your sisters.

“Ughh.. okay whatever.”

You hugged both Elaine and Ren before running off further into the front yard, your former upset expression now replaced with one of pure excitement.

You placed the broom in between your legs, making your bag shuffle a bit. You winked at your friends who were cheering you on.

The broom lifted slowly and then—- you were off!

Both of your older siblings waved you off as you disappeared into the dark night sky.
