Margot had woken with a scream, shooting up and gasping for air. Fear was coursing through her, but she forced herself to take several deep breathes before her heart finally started to slow to a normal pace.
Another nightmare? Or a prophecy?
The nightmare in question had been an extremely realistic scenario in which she was strapped down to a chair and there were people in lab coats all around her.
She had been shirtless and exposed, sensors stuck all over her body. Then one scientist or doctor—or whoever it was—approached and stuck a needle into her arm, taking several vials of blood from her body.
The whole thing made Margot nauseous and afraid, the heart monitor beeping rapidly as her heartbeat sped up to an almost unnatural rate and the brain scans showed her amygdala lighting up like fireworks in July.
The nightmare ended there, and now Margot was wide awake, trying to process the eerily realistic feel to it all.
It wasn't the first time she had a nightmare or dream that felt so real, but the others like it had come to play out in her waking life exactly as she imagined.
She laid back in bed, tried to ignore the dream and fall back asleep, but the vision still haunted her mind and sleep alluded her that night.
