Annabeth’s stomach twists, just a little. Someone important. Someone probably chosen for something. Someone the gods had plans for. She thinks, not for the first time, about the way her life seems to follow a pattern she didn’t design.
Running away at seven and being guided by that owl that always stared at her in such an unsettling way that she never knew if she might prefer going back to the spiders rather than following it. She did not do that, though. She followed the creature right up to that alley were Luke and Thalia found her, and then she never saw it again. The job was complete.
“Or someone the gods were watching.” She murmurs.
