Work Text:
(It's a night as any other: rainy, dark and somber..)
(Jack Pepper, the private detective, sits in his office, racking his brain like a hamster wheel trying to put a case's pieces together. It's a simple theft situation, but he still hasn't found the culprit yet.)
Jack : .... great Gouda, all these hours and for what?
(He slumps his head on his desk, tired and burnt out like a fire. For what felt like a minute, he fell asleep on the desk he was working hard on, using his arms as a pillow... until suddenly)
*knock knock*
(Behind the door was Tammy, Jack's assistant, daughter by law and engineer)
Tammy : Jaaack? You busy in there?
(There was silence.... until Tammy notices the door wasn't even locked)
Tammy : huh... guess he isn't
(She goes in Jack's apartment/office, it's old-fashioned, cozy and pretty clean. But Tammy's eyes land on the sleeping Jack)
Tammy : Jack? You good?
(She nudges him with her hand, but the only answer she gets is a snore from Jack)
Tammy, thinking : (oh thank Gouda, he's just asleep.... wait, how is he even asleep while sitting at a desk? That can't be comfy at all...)
(Then she gets an idea. She grabs Jack and drags him with whatever strength she has and puts him on couch with a blanket)
Tammy, thinking : (there we go, much better!)
(She takes a piece of paper and a pen, she writes on it before leaving it on the coffee table and walking off to the door)
Tammy, thinking : (i guess he'll never listen... oh well, that won't stop me from putting him to bed!)
(And thus she leaves like she wasn't even there.)
(Several hours later...)
(Jack finally wakes up from his sleep and looks around, disoriented and confused)
Jack : what the... why am I..?
(He notices the paper on the coffee table and takes it, reading what's on it...)
"No matter how great you are, you still deserve some rest like everyone else <3"
(The little heart at the bottom of the paper told everything Jack needed to know, this was Tammy's doing.... but yet, he sits there with the paper in hand, his cold steel heart growing a soft spot for the daughter he never knew he needed)
