Vanitas would scroll through the Instagram post's images, or, more accurately, the stream of replies from cheering fans as a result of him getting together with Jeanne. Since dating two years ago, they've been paired in numerous other movies together, which insanely benefitted both of their reputations for something as simple as falling in love.
Vanitas Bleu, an actor that gained popularity at the age of 15 and began openly dating her at sixteen. He'd only starred in a few movies by then — enough to be considered popular, but not too much that his new relationship created any huge scandals. But since going public both of their reputations skyrocketed. It was quite the shock to Jeanne, who, in comparison, just started her first debut to acting the same year they ended up dating.
In short, becoming a couple had other benefits outside of the feelings they were able to express for one another these past two years.
Though, merits didn't come without their share of unfortunate consequences. He'd glance up to the theater screen, rolling the last scene of the first movie he'd been in with his later-down-the-road girlfriend. (Fuck everyone who says being on your phone in the movie theaters is bad. They wouldn't say anything if they've been asked to see the same movie 26 times.)
It was different from the original series, making the absolute ship that never got together from its source a canonical couple. Even now, he could remember the conflict of pulling off such an effective twist to get more adoring fans of the production company compared to the risk if the author didn't approve — which, after much struggle to get in contact, they did.
When his line for the scene cued, Vanitas cringed slightly and immediately diverted his eyes back to his phone. "Will you marry me, Uraraka?" Ew... hearing himself in early puberty sucked.
-- yes I'm bullshitting my way through this scene w/ an alternate mha reality in an alternate vnc reality --
With the credits scene playing, he took Jeanne's hand and escorted them both out of the cinema. Vanitas was smiling as he leaned into the woman, mostly out of eagerness to leave rather than affection — but she didn't need to know that.
"Um... thank you, for taking me out on a date, Vanitas," she squeaked innocently with a polite bow.
"Mhm, I'll be out late tonight anyways," he took her chin and raised her head up. "And why do you look like this everytime I do you a favor, Jeanne?"
He was ignored by her, but still got the enjoyment of seeing her cheeks flush. It was more of an obvious tease he made everytime thry went out like this than a genuine show of care. Clearly, their first date amusingly awkward tour that remained memorable to them both.
Back then, she responded with a quick few blinks came from those golden pupils. "... Vanitas?"
"C'mon~ admit it. The date was so good you feel the need to bow to me, no?"
"Uh..? Well, it was rather kind of you to watch out for me, take me sightseeing around Paris and all," she'd compliment, boosting his ego as his smirk only grew. He really was back to being all smug, obviously. "It was my offer to begin with. You wouldn't have taken me out otherwise!"
She'd originally been from Lozére (modern-day Gévaudan) and, with moving here to jump immediately into acting, Jeanne had been more invested in running around from company to company than touring. So, she asked him to bring her around.
Of course, him doing so with her utmost care in mind was not in planning, and he was very much aware of that. Even through his affection he couldn't help the stifled laughter at her embarrassment throughout the entirety of said date.
"You said you'd be out late again?" Jeanne questioned, if only to change topics. There was some sort of side hustle he had at night. Though, she didn't know what he did. The actress didn't wish to ask though, if only to keep their silent policy of 'don't ask, don't tell' among them. They both had secrets that they wouldn't risk to expose the other's.
"Yep. Make sure you have your water with you next to the bed. Do you need me to buy more?"
"I do think we're running out," she stood off to the side, mind buzzing with confusion as to these random moments where he'd treat her with such care. She supposed even he couldn't not be delicate around someone with a disorder such as hers.
Dipsogenic Diabetes Insipidus, or Dipsogenic DI, was related to fluid intake. More specifically, the loss of fluid. She released a lot of the water in her body, meaning she had to counter such a predicament by drinking more than she'd lose.
"Alright, then I'll buy more on the way back. Oh, and I have the extra crepe on the counter if you want something to snack on."
"Oh, thank you."
The actor went to get one of two house keys, as well as the one to his car. A black Bugatti, sleek and elegant, most likely purchased to show off how rich he is. (Jeanne had tried to convince him to get it recolored due to the danger of driving a black car at night, but he's always refused.)
"I might as well head out now, considering I already have suitable attire," he shrugged, unlocking the front door.
"Right, well, drive safe?"
How many of those car safety articles has she looked at? Wait, actually, maybe I can mess with her a bit with this. "It doesn't work if you're unsure about the statement. In fact, it might raise the chances of someone crashing."
"A-ah?? In that case, drive safe, Vanitas!"
"Pfft—" anddd he started cackling. He's successfully fooled her, or maybe he could've permanently if he didn't break just now, but he's been keeping in his laughter the entire date. Eventually, after a few more bursts of laughter at Jeanne's indignation, he finally sighed, "W-will do."
With that, the door clicked and alarm beeped behind him as he departed. He waited until he was a few blocks away — completely outside the neighborhood and then some — before calling his mysterious coworker in the safety of his car. "Noé—" the other immediately hung up.
Huh? What's up with him? Guess I'll see when I get there. I have a sneaking suspicion as to why though.
With the growing distance from Vanitas, Jeanne also found her phone against her ear. "Domi, can you come over? Vanitas said he'd be coming in late, so I think you'll be in the clear."
"I can be there in 20, sound good, dear?"
"Of course."
How strange was a relationship that rarely showed affection outside of work? One that hadn't gone on dates, never shared a kiss without intent, never truly shared their privacy or feelings with the other. One that hid secrets from each other.
Lovers at noon, perhaps, but traitors in the midnight glow. Is it truly betrayal if there was no love between their promise?
