Short skyblings oneshot

Summary:

They're racing each other in a field!

Work Text:

Her paws hit the ground with a heartbeat-like thud, as she raced across the grass. As much as her muscles burned, she forced herself to keep running, struggling to push air through her lungs. She was not going to let him catch her.

Damn that woman could run. When they made the deal, he'd agreed that neither of them would fly since it'd be unfair, but... At the pace they were going, she wondered if even flying she'd leave him in the dust. His legs hurt like hell, and although she was trying, he couldn't get himself to keep running, falling to the ground with a pathetic groan. Pearl stopped, realizing he'd given up, and slowly walked over. He expected her to make some sarcastic remark, but instead, when she got to her, she collapsed beside her.
'Pearl, I'm gonna be honest, I don't know how you do it. I just can't push myself like that.'
She laid in silence for a moment, before replying breathily.
'Ya gotta get more in touch with your body, dude.'
He sat himself up, looking to her, then up to the bright blue sky. The puffy clouds slowly drifted above the field, like a scene from a fairytale.
'Once ya understand how your body functions and works as one, you learn how to use it to your advantage,' She paused to catch her breath, 'Anyway, you owe me 5 diamonds.'
He rolled his eyes, smiling.
'Yeah, yeah, whatever.'

Pearl sat down on the bench, before reaching in her inventory for her water bottle. Shifting in her seat, as to make room for her tail, she took a swig of water. Hydration is important when you're sweating like you're in the sandlands. (She'd always wondered how those two survived in that heat, although Scar constantly being topless probably helped).
'Hi Pearl!'
A voice came suddenly from behind her, startling her out of her seat with a yell.
'God, hi Grian-' She laughed, 'Why do you gotta scare a girl when she's drinking, man!?'
She picked herself up, facing the avian perching on the back of the bench. She tilted her head, raising her eyebrow at her with a stare.
'Cause it's funny,' She giggled.
He stretched his arms upward, opening his wings, then shaking and folding them again. She'd picked up on that habit of his; despite neither of them being felines (as far as she was aware), he stretched like a cat. It was odd, but certainly not the strangest thing she did.
'You actually need anything, or are you just here to bug me?'
He paused, putting his hand to his chin.
'Hmmmm... Nah, I'm just here to bug you,' She turned her head up, looking down at Pearl with a grin.
