The Knight, The King, and The Jester

Summary:

Hi! I'm Azu*-- or NXLL*. This will be my first AO3 fanfiction and I'm still getting used to it. English is not my main language but I try to use it. If I get any grammar mistakes or spelling mistakes please correct me (nicely)! I'm sorry this is the start of the summary. I have SOL's around the corner.. Uhhh, yeah! Also in this fic Derek is German-American and Avery is Filipino-English or whatever the UK is in. (FUCK GEOGRAPHY and pretend like he's pronouncing them in a British accent)

* AZU is pronounced (AH-zoo)
*NXLL is pronounced like Null (idk how to make a pronunciation thing for it)

"Avery... That name rings a bell."

"Don't play dumb with me, I know you know where he is."

"Maybe I do, maybe I don't. So what? Are you going to scold me?"

Chapter 1: The Reunion

Chapter Text

What's happened? Everything was a blur in D3rlord3's, or should I say, Derek's, head. The room was spinning, making Derek almost throw up from motion sickness. Derek regained his balance and looked around. He was not... dead? He should have been, the King should've killed him. Well, at least he's not dead. He has to go find-

"You imbecile! You- Ah- Gah! Now I'm stuck in your head. Great. It's a surprise how your not dead right now, truly surprising."

The situation was overwhelming enough, but now that Derek had discovered that He was in his head didn't reassure him in the slightest.

"I have to go back."

"What-"

Derek pushed himself off the platform he was on, trying to get himself to respawn. A painful, yet efficient way to get back to spawn. Derek respawned and looked around. His surroundings were unfamiliar. It was just trees, trees, and more trees.

"Wow trying to look for my supposed vessel. Too bad you pushed him off the edge!"

Derek ignored the noise and listened. He heard snuffling and sobbing that sounded like the one and only Avery. Derek ran to the sound until the King just had to butt in.

"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah"

"Are you trying to get under my skin?"

"Probably," The King said, his voice laced with humor.

Derek waltzed in a random direction he last heard the sniffling but didn't see anything.

"Tell me where Avery is."

"Oh look at you, begging to a King. I wonder if that "Isn't it ironic that a King looses to a lord?" propaganda was even real."

"Oh, please. It's not like you had anything better to say."

Derek wanted to smack the smug shitty little grin He probably had on His face. If he has one anyway. Derek cleared his throat and asked again.

"Tell me where Avery is."

"Avery... That name rings a bell"

"Oh, don't play dumb with me, I know you know where he is."

"Maybe I do, maybe I don't. So what? Are you going to scold me?"

"I- Ugh! Just shut up!"

"Only when I want to."

Derek walked almost endlessly and mindlessly to find Avery. Derek tried to find any clues but nothing. Derek tried a few things but to no avail. Derek wanted to give up right then and there but he had to keep going, for Avery. It's weird that Avery tried saving a person he didn't know, all because of some random video apparently. Derek climbed a tall tree and saw what seemed to be a house of some sort, a man-made house. It might be Avery's! Derek climbed down the tree and sprinted to the building, he could be a few steps closer to Avery. Derek got to the entrance and starts panting, that was a long way. Derek knocked gently on the door and heard crying. As soon as he knocked it came to an abrupt stop. In a weary voice, what seemed to be Avery yelped a quiet "Coming!" Avery ran down his stairs with a grin that looked miserable. He opens the door and waves.

"H-hi! What br-..." Avery cuts himself off and blinks a few times, was he going crazy?

"Hey," Derek rubs the back of his helmet and awkwardly chuckles. "So, uh- Hmph!-"

Avery pulls Derek into a deep, and almost bone shattering hug. Avery starts to cry again, tears rolling down his face.

"Your.. alive!"

"Yeah.."

"Great to see my vessel again."

Derek wanted to smack the shit of of Hatsur. Avery brings Derek in, sitting him down on the couch as they talk about normal stuff, while Hatsur bothers the knight.

"I thought you said you were going to die! I-I..." Avery trails off and let's go of Derek and fidgets with the hem of his shirt.

"I thought so, too. I wonder how I didn't die."

"Won't you tell your friend that I'm still here? It's not like you can hide it for long, anyway."  He chuckles.

Shouldn't he tell Avery? What if he will stop interacting with him because of It? What if something happens that relates to the King? What if... All these questions bombard Derek all at once and his head starts to throb and guilt builds up in his chest. Avery notices a slight shift in the atmosphere and gently shakes the taller man. Derek snaps out of it and sighs.

"I need a break.." Derek mutters under his breath.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Derek lays in the spare bed, it wasn't awful but it certainly wasn't comfortable. The room was dark. Derek turns his head to the side. "8:45" the digital clock blinks.

"Are you going to act lonely all day?"

"Oh, shut it."

"You wanted to be the hero so bad and look what it got you into. You're so dumb you know that?"

If only he could tape Hatsur's mouth shut. Derek sighs and looks back at the ceiling, thinking about some stuff. The silence was deafening, a little eerie but still a bit nice to not have a voice in your head all the time.  Avery then barges into the room, scaring Derek-- who jumps off of his bed in fear.

"SHIT-"

Derek hits his head on the floor while Avery ran to him, trying not to laugh.

"Derek! Pffttt-  Y-you okay?"

"And I'm supposed to be stuck with this guy.."

Avery helped Derek up and started bursting out laughing like a mad man. Derek groaned and rubbed his head, it hurt badly. Not to mention the constant headaches he gets.

"Wow.. You make me hit my head and you're laughing? You're so mean." Derek smirked, sarcasm laced in his tone.

"Sorry, sorry." Avery chuckles.

"Well, I'm going to sleep. See you tomorrow!" Avery closes the door and walks to his room, his footsteps audible from behind the door.

Derek tucks himself into bed and goes to sleep. Or, he tries to at least. Derek couldn't sleep. He looks at the digital clock one more time. "1:52" he reads.

"Do you normally sleep like this, or what?"

"Not with you giving me massive headaches."

God, it was late. Derek took some melatonin and went to sleep.
