Work Text:
He was almost glad that he didn’t have anyone checking in on him the last few days.
Granted, it wasn’t that he wouldn’t welcome visitors right now since he was recovering from an injury and couldn’t do shinobi work until he recovered. However he wanted privacy as he slowly pulled out the body pillow and set it against the wall.
Kakashi took a slow breath as his arm rested in a sling; looking at the photo of Obito–an enhanced one so he was the only face in it. He has to take a minute and compose himself, slowly slipping off his mask.
It’s fine….you’re alone…no one is going to bug you…you are doing this for your future, Kakashi.
Even with his internal little pep talk, Kakashi still felt his hands tremble with his barely contained nerves. He stared at that adorable face of the boy he’s had a crush in for a long time. His soft cheeks, his cute smile and those striking dark eyes behind the orange glass of those goggles. It takes every last bit of self control not to lovingly bite Obito on the shoulder.
“Come on, Kakashi. You just got promoted to Jonin…you graduated at the top of your class…don’t wuss out now…” he hissed to himself as he tried to keep the heat from spreading all over his face.
He knows that if he wanted to one day kiss the boy he loves he needed practice on something. This was as close as he could get and dammit he wasn’t going to chicken out on a fake Obito!
Slowly he rolled his shoulders and took a slow breath. Just like he practiced in his head…
“Heeeey Obito. Fancy seeing you here at the dumpling shop,” he hummed trying to keep his tone light but with just a little flirty undertone, “You like their dango here? It is pretty good isn’t it?” He reached out his good hand to gently caress over the photo’s lips, “I bet it’s as sweet as you are….” he slowly leaned in, slowly pursing his lips to press against the photo.
He jerked back at the last second when his mind processed what he just said, “Uuugh…that was so laaaame…He’s gonna look at me like an idiot if I used a corny line like that…!” He pushed back his hair with a frustrated growl, “Come on, Kakashi…”
The young jonin pushes his spiky white hair back while trying to keep his breathing steady. He could always work on a pick up line later, that wasn’t important. He just needed to be able to kiss the image of Obito. If he can manage that without turning into a puddle of mush then he would be able to ask Obito on a date.
He just needed practice. Just like he practiced with weapons, practiced with shuriken, practiced his jutsu. There was nothing he couldn’t master and dammit he would master this!
“It’s just a kiss…just a kiss…” he took a slow breath before he closed his eyes and leaned forwards.
You can do this, you can do this, you’ve done this so many times in your dreams, just kiss the photo and pretend it’s him! Technically it is him just on paper. Do it, just do it, do it now or you’re doomed to mess up when you get brave enough to ask him out!!!
When his lips met the smooth paper, his eyes closed and he tried to not to let his sweat soak the paper. It was so warm in here as his face was the same shade as the pink dumpling made to make dango.
After a moment of sitting there kissing the photo he pulled back with a slight wheeze. His heart was pounding so hard against his chest he thinks it might destroy his ribcage as he fell back on to his futon.
“...Ugh…I’m so pathetic…” he covered his face and kicked his legs in the hopes that may help alleviate the sheer embarrassment he felt.
These feelings he has for Obito were so intense. He’s never had positive feelings that consumed him the way these ones do. Like his stomach was full of dozens of fluttering little bugs, his insides were melting every time he saw that goofy smile, and his heart felt like it was trying to burst its way out of his chest.
It was irrational. He was a shinobi, a jonin who needed to be ready to kill at any moment when sent on dangerous missions.
..I really want to kiss Obito too though…I need to get better at this, to be able to do this without acting like some kind of nerd….he sees me as some unshakeable, cool shinobi even if he won’t admit it…I have to keep being that if I’m going to go out with him!! Cool shinobi do not get worked up by a kiss!!!!
Kakashi took a slow deep breath and sat up, looking at the pillow with the photo once more, his eyes blazing with determination.
“Okay…let’s try this ag–”
“Kakashi?”
“AAAH!” he falls off the bed with widened eyes, his blanket going flying and the pillow falling back on to the floor.
Standing over him with nothing but judgement and concern was his loyal ninken, Pakkun who tilted his head at him. He burned with some shame, but he was also relieved that it was his dog and not one of his teammates. There was no way he could ever face Minato-sensei if he was the one who caught him.
Pakkun tilted his head, “...Ya know Kakashi…there’s books you could read to help ya learn how to kiss. You ever heard of Make-Out tactics?”
Kakashi paused for a moment…then he sat up with a flash to his eyes.
“I’m listening.”
