Work Text:

"Man, that chicken girl was real strange…"

It was a Saturday, a great ol' Saturday. Denji awoke after harassing his seniors, Aki and Himeno, the previous day, along with Power, his work buddy. The previous day had been normal, except for one tiny variable…

"Who was that 'chicken girl,' and why did she seem so familiar…?" he thought to himself as he slowly arose from his slumber.

Brushing that thought away, he started preparing for his day off from his job in Public Safety. Right as he was about to exit his apartment, he remembered that thought again.

"Wait, no, she was in my dream. She liked some band—what was it? Weeza, weezo? No, it was definitely Weezer."

"I should probably try to find her."

Denji then heads out of his apartment in search of the girl…

Walking around Tokyo, he finds his great buddy, Power.

"HI, DENJI!"

"Hey, Power."

"So whatcha ya doing, Denji?"

"I'm just looking for the girl who had the chicken yesterday."

Power genuinely looks at him, confused as to why he's so interested in the "chicken girl." She thinks to herself, "Why is he so interested in her…?"

"Well, Power, I'm gonna go look for her. See you later."

After that small interaction with Power, Denji continues on his search to find the "chicken girl." Unbeknownst to him, Power was slowly following him around, through every corner and turn.

He soon finds her on a bench, just sitting there.

He thinks to himself, "Wait… is that her?"

Asa was having an average day.

"Just an average Saturday, nothing to get excited about."

She woke up, brushed her teeth, got ready, and by some strange force, she decided to go out and about. Before she left, however, she thought of her interaction with Chainsaw Man the previous day.

"My God, that interaction went terribly," she muttered to herself. She did wonder if she'd seen that boy before…

Continuing on her way out, she thought to herself, "No way, I'd remember someone like that. With those eyes and that hair—"

Cutting herself off, she leaves the apartment.

She wandered around Tokyo looking for something to do besides being in her apartment. After walking around for some time, she sits on a bench.

Just for some time, though, as there was a person walking towards her.

"Chainsaw Man?"

"Chicken girl?"

Asa died a little inside after hearing Denji call her "chicken girl." She thought to herself, "Oh my God, that's all he thinks of me."

"Whyyy,"she screams internally

Denji sits next to her and asks her name.

"It's… Asa."

Denji suddenly looks extremely bewildered, much to Asa's confusion. He thinks to himself, "Wait, this has to be her?!"

"So what's yours, Chainsaw Man?"

"Oh, it's Denji, nice to meetcha."

Asa looks at him. Did she know him? He is kind of cute, though…

"Sooo… Denji, would you like to go on a date with me?"

"Huh?!" "I mean, right now?"

"Only if you can right now," she responded.

"I mean…" "You know what, sure!"

"Great then!!!"

Asa could tell that she looked really nervous while asking him out.

"He did accept, though…"

Power continued to follow Denji while he talked to the "chicken girl." Power did not like the fact that the girl was taking time away from her. Denji's his buddy, not this random schoolgirl.

"'Tis a tragedy, this harlot comes out of nowhere and takes away my time with Denji," she whispered to herself.

She began to devise a plan. She would stop this one way or another. Although not long after, she hears the girl asking Denji out.

"That's it, no way!" she nearly yells out.

Realizing this, she scurries away quietly.

"I will find her…"

Wow.

He got a date. He got a date with a cute girl, and it was happening now. Denji was so surprised and happy that he almost started giggling like a maniac, but he composed himself and walked with Asa.

"Sooo, Asa, where are we going?"

"Oh, we're going to the movies, one of my favorite movies, The Burning Love of Our Secret, got a rerelease in the theater, and I'm so excited to see it and—" "Oop, am I ranting…?"

"Yeah, but I like it, it's cool you like something this much."

He noticed a shift in her face after that; she looked very flustered.

Denji had never seen a movie before… Had he? He remembered watching one in his dream with a girl called Makima. "Was that her name…?"

He brushes that thought aside to focus on his current date. He then gets handed a movie ticket by Asa.

"What's this for, Asa?"

"Oh, you need it so you can watch the movie."

Denji felt like a bit of a klutz after figuring that out, having never gone to a movie theater before. Or had he?

Power tried to sneak through the theater so as not to arouse any suspicion. She didn't make it very far before getting spotted by one of the staff members.

"Hey, lady, you need a ticket to enter."

This led to her getting into an argument with Carl, a young, new staff member who had just started the day before.

"YOU WILL LET ME, THE GREAT, FANTASTIC, MAJESTIC POWER, ENTER THIS MOVIE ESTABLISHMENT!"

"Look, lady, I can't just let you in without a ticket."

"It's my second day here, I'm not just going to lose my job because some random lady wants to get in for free."

This set Power off. How dare this stupid human tell her what to do?

"HOW DARE YOU NOT ALLOW THE GREAT POWER BE AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT FOR FREE?"

"CAUSE I NEED MONEY, I NEED THIS JOB!" He yells at her

Power becomes the most intimidating she could be.

"If you don't let me in, I'LL RIP YOUR HEAD OFF, I'LL MAKE SURE THEY CAN'T FIND YOU TOMORROW."

She starts aggressively growling at Carl. This, in turn, scares the ever-living shit out of Carl, who's fully ready to start bolting out of the building.

"Fuckthisjob. Ju-just d-don't kill me, p-please," he says while sobbing.

"What if I do…?" Power menacingly responds.

Carl runs out, bawling his eyes out. "I'M NEVER COMING BACK HERE," he cried out.

Power is relieved at how easy it was to intimidate the poor worker.

"That should teach him to never mess with the great Power again."

"Do you hear someone screaming?" Asa asks Denji.

"Naw, not really," Denji responds.

The little couple heads into the viewing room, ready to watch the movie. Denji was really hoping the movie would be good, and Asa was just worried if she chose the wrong movie.

Power used her little distraction to sneak behind them and head into the viewing room.

They all found their seats relatively quickly, with Denji and Asa sitting near the middle, and Power in the back to keep watch…

"Sooo, when does it start…?" Denji curiously asks Asa.

"In a bit, just… be patient, okay?"

Immediately after she says that, the movie starts.

"Oh my God, Denji, it's starting!" she says, all giddy.

Power mutters to herself, "Dumb girl, taking away my time with my Denji…"

The movie starts with a poignant, sad introduction about the main character lamenting the loss of her mother.

Denji whispers to Asa, "Sooo, what happens?"

"Denji, you have to wait; it only gets better from here," she whispers back.

Power, seeing this, in an uncommon bout of maturity, just decides to leave.

"You know what? I'll let Denji have this."

She dejectedly leaves her seat and goes back to her home.

Denji was quite bored for the majority of the movie until this one scene. He felt it was quite a strange thing to be crying about; after all, it was just the two lovers hugging in a field.

He looked to the side and saw Asa with the same melancholic face he had.

He chose not to say anything until the movie ended.

After the movie, they head out of the theater and sit down on a nearby bench.

Asa talks first.

"So, what did you think of it?"

"The movie was pretty cool," he responded.

"That's all? What about the amazing cinematography, with the lilac flowers symbolizing the girl's innocence and first love, or even the guy doing everything to protect her and still dying in the end? Or even the— I'm ranting again, aren't I…?"

"It's okay, Asa, I like hearing you talk."

Asa's face turns as bright red as a tomato; she was really surprised that Chainsa— Denji had told her this.

"Uhh, thank you!" she said nervously.

"You're welcome! Wanna do something like this again sometime?" he said.

"Sure, I'd love to do this again with You."
