1985: Echoes of the Past

Summary:

Some secrets are best left forgotten. . .

After nearly losing his father and his own life to an ominous yellow rabbit, Oswald tries to leave the memories of 1985 behind.

But in the world of Five Nights at Freddy’s, some secrets refuse to stay buried.

Notes:

I wanted to try and write horror for the first time so I tried writing the aftermath of ‘Into The Pit’! I liked that story so I tried to write a fic on it.

Hope you enjoy!

Also i know that the chapter title doesn’t fit,but I had no other ideas okay?😭 so just think of it as Oswald coming back from 1985 to his own world aka ‘home’.

Chapter Text

The rabbit thing was dead.
That meant all the torture and fear would be over, right?

Oswald hoped that would be the case.

As he stared at the yellow rabbit suspended from the rope, he realised something horrifying.
It had done this to itself.

Oswald’s stomach twisted as he remembered the shock of seeing the thing gasping for air, the way its paws clawed desperately at the rope around its neck.

The way it kicked the air frantically, as if it had thought it could loosen the rope it was trapped in.

After a few more seconds of struggling, the yellow creature went still. Oswald blinked. Nothing but a dirty, empty yellow costume hung from the rope.

The thing no longer looked like the monster that had attacked Oswald. The creature was lifeless. Its eyes were no longer glowing, and its sharp fangs were nowhere in sight. It actually looked like a suit for once, If that’s what it’s supposed to be.

The monster was dead.
So why did it feel like it was staring at him?

Oswald flinched as he heard his father’s groan, breaking the silence. He rushed to his dad’s side. “I don’t understand why I’m here,” Jeremiah said, rubbing his eyes.

“What happened?”

Oswald hesitated, debating what to say.

He could:
1. Tell the truth and make everyone around him think he was crazy.
Or
2. Say something believable and avoid the stares.

Oswald went with the latter.

“I uh…wanted to play a prank on you by hiding in the ball pit, but I think you hit your head and lost consciousness.” He muttered guiltily. “I’m sorry Dad…I shouldn’t have done that.”

His father stared at him for a moment before he let out a small smile, “That’s alright kiddo, I used to play pranks on my old man too.” He said ruffling Oswald’s hair, “But no more dangerous pranks, okay?”

“Okay,” Oswald replied with a sad smile on his face.

“Also, what is that thing?” His dad asked, pointing towards the yellow rabbit.

“I don’t know. Must be an old suit.” Oswald replied, glancing back towards the thing in the pit. Just looking at the thing sent shivers down his spine.

Jeremiah paused for a moment before grabbing Oswald by the wrist, “What happened here?” He examined the deep cut that went up his arm.

“You’re bleeding.”

“I—I don’t know, Dad. I think I cut it by accident when I tried pulling you out of the pit.” He looked away.

“Well, I’ll clean it up once we get home, then maybe your mom could patch it up after she gets home.”

Oswald nodded, getting up from the dusty old floor. He held his dad’s hand tightly as if he would disappear the moment he let go.

Once they reached the door, Oswald turned his head to look at the creature one last time. But wait, what was that?

Oily black liquid oozed out of its eyes. It looked like it was crying. But how could it cry? Wasn’t it just a suit? Oswald hand gripped tightly at his father’s hand.

Oswald couldn’t bear to look at it anymore. He quickened his pace and somehow made his way to the counter at Jeff’s Pizza. The sudden brightness made him blink.

Jeff was wiping the counter, watching the ball game on the restaurant’s TV. Hadn’t he heard something?

“See you tomorrow Jeff.” His dad waved at him.

Jeff just nodded, his eyes fixated on the TV.

”C’mon Oz.” Jeremiah urged Oswald as he paused near the door.

The two walked out of the restaurant. Oswald took in the fresh air, and let go of the smell of pizza grease and dust stuck to his nose.

As his dad started the car, Oswald started to wonder…
Where did it all go wrong?

A few days ago, Oswald was a normal 12 year old boy. But everything changed once he’d discovered that darn ball pit. On the bright side, he’d made two new friends — Mike and Chip. They were the only good thing to come out of all this.

But on one fateful day, something happened which changed Oswald forever

Six dead bodies laid out in the restaurant. All on display for everyone to see.

There was screaming, parents dragging their kids out by their arms, and then there were the bodies themselves. All wearing classic Freddy Fazbear birthday hats. All ready to experience the birthday party they never could. They were bloody, dismembered, and some of them were even missing limbs.

Then there was the rabbit. The horrid, horrid rabbit. He was the one responsible for all of this. HE was the one who killed them and set them up for display.

And for some reason… for some STUPID reason… Oswald followed him… only to become its next target.

“Why did it take Dad?”

That was the one question Oswald couldn’t stop asking.

And why was he the only one who saw that thing…when everyone else saw his dad?

Why? How?

Oswald wanted answers.

But that was something he couldn’t have.

It wasn’t possible.

It wasn’t meant for him.

None of this would’ve happened if— “Oswald!” His dad called out, snapping his fingers in Oswald’s face.

Oswald blinked. “Y-yeah?”

“I’ve been calling your name for ages. What’s wrong?” His dad asked him. Oswald looked away, “N-nothing… Just tired.”

That was a lie. ‘Tired’ couldn’t even begin to describe what Oswald was feeling right now.
