Chapter Text
Scott woke up in the earlier hours of the morning, as the sun was still rising over the buildings he could see out his apartment window. Vampires didn't need sleep, never have, probably never will- although it was relaxing and they still get mentally tired. It was nice to have rest, to let his mind wander, even if the places it went weren't always the places he wanted to reach.
He sat up, adjusting the chain around his neck; it was plain silver with a charm shaped like a sword, and it was one of the only things he could find in Avid’s room after his death, along with his clothes from when he first arrived.
He grabbed his phone off the cluttered bedside table and lay back down, facing up at the bare ceiling.
He unlocked his phone, his home screen lighting up the area around him; it was an old photo of him, Drift and Shelby around a year or two after the events of Oakhurst, he continued to check his texts and emails- until an email caught his eye.

He was... happy?
After years of mourning, you’d think he’d be over his dead partner by now; but really, he wasn't, truthfully, he doesn't think he ever will be. Avid was the first person to make him feel something, could anyone really forget that?
But now he has a job, expectations and people who love him. He doesn't want to move on without him, even if he has too.
But it's fine, he will move on. For himself, for Drift, for Shelby.
For Avid.

He rummages through his closet, picking a basic dress shirt paired with a dark red sweater, and black trousers. He pulls the chain over his shirt as he picks up his bag and exits his room.
“Morning Scott!” Shelby grinned as Scott entered the kitchen.
“Morning Shelbs” Scott walked up to her as he spoke
He grabbed himself a bag of blood from the fridge and put it in the microwave, following by grabbing a mug from the cabinet. He turned to Shelby who seemed to be pouring ice and blood into a flask.
“Fresh blood much?” Scott stated, quickly cut off by the aggravating beeping of the machine
“Yep!” Shelby stated as Scott poured the bag into his mug “went to the butchers last night”
Scott hummed in appreciation as he sipped his drink “I got the job by the way”
Shelby gasped and whipped her head around “SCOTT! This is amazing! Why didn't you tell me!”
“I only found out today!” Scott grabbed his bag and put his mug in the sink “anyways meeting is in 30 so better be on my way”
Shelby handed him the flask from earlier “I'll make another, have a great first day!”
Scott took the flask and waved at Shelby before walking out the door. Him, Shelby and Drift lived in a high-class apartment in London, after they decided to move out of New York to see somewhere new.
The walk to his new job was quite peaceful for this time of morning. He strolled down the street and approached the old brick building; Scott admired the tall birch trees dotted around the fields and the flowers that decorated the grass; he quickly hurried up the steps and rang the buzzer. The small machine made a vibrating sound and the large green metal gates unlocked. Scott continued to walk up to reception; opening the door and walking in.
He approached a white-haired woman; she seemed to be wearing a rose in her hair and was wearing a black dress, she was seated behind a wooden desk and plastic screen, writing something in a notebook.
“Hello! Uh...” Scott squinted at her name badge “Ivory! I'm Scott Goldsmith, new history teacher?”
Ivory looked up at the white-haired man before grabbing something long and a piece of paper from under the desk.
“h-hi sir” she stuttered as she spoke “this I-is your timetable and lanyard, uhm, Ms Tay should give you your c-classroom and the rundown on how the school works...”
“Thank you so much” Scott smiled “pleasure talking with you”
Ivory had not told him where the meeting was held, therefore Scott proceeded to walk around the endlessly long and bland school corridors until he saw teachers filling into what looked like the hall. He looked around before deciding to join his co-workers into the room.
Scott took a seat on an uncomfortable plastic chair; followed by a pink haired lady on his right.
“Hello, I'm Lizzie!” she smiled at him “I'm a music teacher, I'm assuming your new?”
“Ah right, yes” Scott held out his hand “Scott Goldsmith, History teacher”
Their conversation was quickly interrupted by the noise of a microphone. A woman with one braid of ginger-orange hair stood at the front of the hall with a microphone and notepad. She wore a green jumper and overalls with embroidered flowers.
“Hello all” the woman spoke “welcome back, I'm sure you don't want to be here just as much as the rest of us. But I would like you all to welcome our two new staff members!”
The woman gestured to Scott and another person he could not see
“Scott here is our new history teacher.” she smiled at him then turned to her right and motioned towards the other “and Aimsey is our new English teacher!”
Scott mumbled as he stood up, looking over to his co-worker. He guessed they were female, although he knew better than to assume, they had straight brown hair and wore a grey hoodie, they made eye contact and they waved before sitting back down.
The woman proceeded speaking to the staff, something about new detention rules or useless uniform policy. Scott knew it would be in an email anyways and therefore thought about something else for a while.

“Hey, Scott Goldsmith, right?” the same woman with the ginger hair walked up to him “Gemini Tay, you can call me Gem. I'm the headteacher here”
“Pleasure to meet you, thank you for the position”
“No need, we needed another history teacher anyways” she smiled “I would organize your classroom if I was you, gets hectic on the first school day”
“Appreciate it, have a lovely day Gem” He spoke as he left the hall
Scott exited the hall, following the numbers on the doors before he found his classroom, entering he saw a plain but tidy desk with nothing but a computer and some plug sockets. He organized the small amount of equipment and large number of papers, curriculums and timetables given to him by Gem and Ivory. This task was quickly interrupted by a brisk knock at his classroom door.
“Come in.” Scott sighed whilst arranging the pens on his desk
A man with fluffy brown hair and bright purple eyes opened the door and shut it behind him, any colour from Scott's already pale skin was drained and all his limbs froze up.
It was him.
