True sees her across the bar like a ghost. He freezes and glances at Ali to make sure that she’s here and it’s not more than a decade before in this same bar, at this same hour, to this same song. Ali smiles at him. She stretches up to kiss him and he only gives her one on the cheek. Which she still seems pleased with.
“I’m going to grab us drinks,” True says.
Ali thanks him, and he heads off to the bar. Because she can’t be here right now, but he can’t help himself in hoping.
