Chapter Text

Saiki Kusuo was passing through Class 2-2 while his close friends; Nendou, Kaidou and Kuboyasu were with him. Chatting away with the weirdest topic of how and why some animals lay eggs while others give birth. If he could, Saiki would sever off his ears and return it when they talked actual common sense again. Which is rare. The door of class 2-2 was slightly open, a clear yet narrow view of the inside. Saiki instantly caught a glance at someone he had always found so interesting, Satou Hitoshi. Black hair, fair skin and a yellowish brown set of eyes.

It was just so fascinating how he managed to be so average. So normal. Like an NPC of a game. Average scores in school, never causing or being in immediate danger/problems, ordinary friends and conversations that seemed so boring. But that was exactly what caught Saiki's attention. It contrasted his rather eventful life he doesn't quite like (of how eventful it is.) He dreams to be careless, free and just enjoying life like Satou. When he caught a glimpse of Satou, he was talking with his friends, laughing. Which made Saiki's lips turn upright for a few centimeters.
The stoic pink haired boy was so fond of the most ordinary man you could find in this earth. His train of thought was disrupted by the sudden outburst of laughter coming out of his idiotic friends. He continued to follow them as usual.

In the back of Saiki's mind, he intends to always just... observe Satou from afar. Having him in the equation of his life made an anomaly. Saiki wouldn't do such a thing. Disturb Satou's normal life. Heck, he'd destroy mountains and use all his psychic powers if that means Satou would preserve his ordinary life. That's why he just looks. He just watches. He... yearns. Which was something he would never admit. To actually talk to Satou. Just because he would ruin Satou's normalcy.

Satou was sitting in class, his friends were talking about the newest game that came out. Maybe even planning to play it together at someone's house sometime. All happy and just carefree. Satou felt like there was someone looking at him, a lurking and lingering feeling. He shot his head towards the door and saw a glimpse of pink. Pink hair.  Who else could it be? It was Saiki Kusuo. From class 2-3 who always had a posse following him around. Even the angel herself, Teruhashi Kokomi. There was a diverse amount of people that were magnetized to Saiki. What was interesting about him? He was incredibly quiet, as if he never opened his mouth. He never had another expression except his straight face with the world's incredibly judgemental stare known to man.

But... he was so popular. Let's be honest, Satou was envious of him. And so annoyed! He has all of that and doesn't look like he's enjoying it one bit! How?? Satou would kill  to even be greeted by the one and only goddess, Teruhashi but Saiki isn't happy but rather he looks pissed off??? Satou stares at his table while his other two friends were continuing the discussion.
But then again, I don't actually know if he enjoys being around those people. Who am I to judge...
"Satou?" His friend calls out and his mind drifts back to the conversation.
"Sorry, zoned out a bit! Haha... what were you guys saying?"
"Let's his the dessert place downtown before going to your house to play the new Grand Legend Saga!" They beamed with excitement and so did Satou. Well of course, he gets time to spend with his friends. Satou nods to the arrangement enthusiastically.
"Sure!"

The bell rings for the last time that day. Satou Hitoshi grabs his backpack, slinging it to one side of the arm before putting his other arm through the hole.
"Satou! Let's go!" One of his friends slung his arm around his shoulder and Satou responded with a laugh. They had a normal conversation throughout the journey of going to the dessert cafe shop near his house. It wasn't that popular but the prices matched the quality of the food. His younger brother also has a sweet tooth and Satou would often buy some small dessert for him. He wasn't foreign to this cafe. When they entered, they were instantly greeted by the smell of sweet delicacies and they were instantly hyped up.

While his two other friends rushed to the counter to order and look at the menu, Satou was a bit preoccupied with something that caught his eye. The back of a certain pink haired boy with ball antennas and green tinted glasses sitting alone in a booth, accompanied only with a regular sized cup of coffee jelly. Scooping up small pieces and seeming to enjoy it. He walks slowly, his eyes still glued to that boy and his suspicions were correct with that green uniform the same as his, it was Saiki Kusuo.

Huh, he's not with his friends...? Satou shrugged it off for a bit and went to the counter where his other friends had already ordered. He does the same, going with the most popular thing on the menu. They all sat down at a booth paralelled to Saiki's booth. Satou looked for a bit, just to see what his expressions were. And it was... just quiet and calm bliss. Almost... elegant. Beautiful, even. Satou looks back to his friends, a bit flustered that he even thought of that just now.

The psychic, Saiki Kusuo, had been fleeing from his friend group for a few minutes after school to eat coffee jelly from a cafe he found out while Teruhashi had been scheming a plan to be... close to Saiki. To get him to fall for her. To get him to "ofu..." which was hoenstly the weirdest motivation he could possibly think of. Usually, the cafe wasn't all that busy and probably just had a maximum of 10 people. He liked that peace. Sometimes, he would use his ring to literally fully block out everything. Today, he didn't bring any but there were only 6 customers. He ordered coffee jelly per usual to the point the waiter already prepared it at the same exact time every day. Saiki appreciated this routine.

Even Saiki ate coffee jelly daily, he would never be tired of it. The taste being forever unchanging is also what makes Saiki in love with it. Like... a certain someone in his mind. No no no. Don't think about that. He continues to eat the coffee jelly, his social battery charging right back up with every bite of the dessert. But that peace was disrupted by the bell of the door chringing, he didn't look back but what caught him off guard was the voice of someone familiar.

He hoped it wasn't someone that would bother him but then when he peers over he sees none other than the person he was JUST thinking about a few seconds earlier, Satou. Gosh. This was the first time Saiki had seen him out of school by pure accident. He looked... happy. Saiki continued to be mesmerised by the black haired boy. His gaze softening yet his expression still rigid.

When Satou's body turns towards his direction, Saiki's gaze averts back to his coffee jelly. But he realises... he realises that his heart is going at an irregular pace. He tries to do breathing exercises to calm it down. What's wrong with my heart? He stuffs his mouth with coffee jelly in hopes of everything would go back to normal. When Saiki's gaze goes to find Satou again, he sees Satou was sitting down with his friends and desserts in front of them. Satou ordered the banana split with the neopolitan ice cream. What a normal option. His arms instinctively go up on to the table, his elbow resting on the table while his hand was cupping his jaw while admiring the totally and perfectly normal hangout of Satou and his friends. Then he thinks about it again, I look too obvious that I'm looking at him. He looks back to the coffee jelly. Suddenly, Satou's familiar voice crept up to his mind-reading ears, "Maybe he goes here often... He looks so happy eating that coffee jelly, it's kind of adorable."

PFFT-!
Saiki Kusuo spat out his coffee jelly out of surprise, choking on air. Everyone looked at him and Saiki visibly turned red on the cheeks, a slight but obvious tint. Was... Satou talking about... me????  Saiki was flabbergasted by that comment. For all he knew, Satou had no interest with him and sometime would actually be a little envious of him being close to Teruhashi (which he shouldn't tbh) but never would he expect that!
"Is he okay...?" The unspoken question rang in Saiki's ears, it made his heart leave his body. He buries his face to the table. His mind was in a haze. Never had he had these overwhelming feelings before. He covered up the entirety of his head, trying to hide away from the embarrassment. He just wanted to teleport right then and there to be honest.

The next day, Satou was carrying a few binders from the teachers' office and without warning, the anntena-d boy passes by him in front of him. He remembers yesterday. And today he looked extra... annoyed? Frown and loud heaves. Satou needed to deliver this to the auditorium. He adjusted his hold but he accidentally slipped. The binders were falling downwards with no way of him catching it. He feared for his life. If these binders were to be dirty, broken, wet, he'd be killed.  For a split second, there was a slight flash but there were another set of hands catching every and each binder. When Satou looked up, he saw the green-glasses and his eyes widened.
"Ah... Thank you, Saiki-kun," With those words, Saiki lagged. Satou said his name. Satou said his name. Satou said his name. Satou said HIS name. He had previously been overthinking about yesterday and this DIDN'T help at all.

He managed to get out "No worries," Trying to sound as nonchalant as possible so Satou doesn't realise how sweaty he is right now.
"Actually, could you help me with these documents? Unless you're busy of course!" Satou smiled cheerily. Yes! I need to get out of my comfort zone! is all Satou was thinking about, making a new friend while Saiki just wanted to melt in the spot at that moment. He was a wrong variable! This wasn't supposed to be in the storyline of him being normal! Oh no, he's ruined it. But... it's just one interaction. It's not like everything would start crashing out right? Just... Just this once.

Saiki nodded and helped him with the binders easily, he could supposedly just teleported there but at that very moment, he realises just the reason why normal people actually liked walking. Because of the moment, the timing and just the experience. Saiki walking side to side with Satou. Satou was overjoyed, glowing rays beaming out of him more than Teruhashi ever could. They didn't talk about anything but Saiki felt comfortable in just his presence alone. Well and his thoughts which were just, "Good thing Saiki was there! Wow, it's my first time talking to him! I get the appeal..." Saiki tried his best to silence it out, not wanting to pry to his thoughts. Where was that ring anyways...

They entered the auditorium doors and Satou entered first. Just as Saiki was about to follow him, Teruhashi blocked him. "Saiki-kun! Good morning."
"Hm. Yes. It's a good morning." To which he looks to Satou smiling and talking to the advisor. Saiki looks away, almost shyly and snickers softly. Teruhashi gasps softly. She obviously thought that it was about her. He's fallen for my charms! Teruhashi was about to say more things but Saiki squeezed through the gap and jogged a bit to catch up with Satou.

"Oh- Saiki's here too! Didn't know you two were friends!" The advisor heartily chuckled. Satou just chuckled in response and Saiki stared almost... lovingly. Teruhashi was... amazed at the sight. The blue haired girl, checked it again, once. Twice. Thrice. Yes... Saiki was smiling... and it was because of this nobody... Perhaps... was the reason he never thought much of her was because he's always had eyes on guys???
The thought struck her like lightning.

Saiki Kusuo... is gay.
She gasps audibly and even if at first, she hated to admit it because well... it would be a lie if she said she didn't like him that way. But it made perfect sense now. He was the only one to resist her because he... had always liked someone else. Finally, she smiles in acceptance. Well... they do look good together.

"Thanks Saiki-kun." He grins, his teeth all out and frankly... an arrow had just shot through Saiki's heart.
"No worries." He replied with a straight face.

They part their ways. Saiki had long forgotten that his initial plan was to not get close to Satou at all... he'd ruin his normal life! But the happiness and the sensation of his heart squeezed was intoxicating that he didn't care anymore. All he really wanted to do is talk again with Satou. Admire how normal he is. Admire his smile. His carefreeness. Everything.
