Work Text:

The creaking of his bedroom door alarmed Wonwoo, disturbing him from whatever fitful slumber he was falling into.

"Wonwoo hyung, are you asleep yet?" came the whisper of his roommate, Mingyu, who was only a year younger than him but perhaps was more responsible and took care of him rather unconditionally instead of being taken care of like what the norm should have been.

The boy to put it simply, was the one Wonwoo held in his heart as revealed by the words that had come tumbling out of his mouth earlier that day in the evening over a shared cup of coffee he couldn’t say no to despite the multiple cups of caffeine he knew he'd already downed. He hadn’t intended to let loose of his feelings in such a manner—if at all—to be honest but it felt right then and what shocked him more was the other's reception to the confession.

Their friends had already planted enough delusion in his head for him to wonder at times whether the younger would accept his confessions if he were to ever confess. But he'd never conjured up a suitable scenario and answer in his head, either way too scared to act on any of the possibilities, and yet the day actually came sooner than he'd have ever thought it would. So it did take him by surprise when just as he started panicking about the "I like you Min" that he uttered and started rambling an excuse, he found the other's lips pressed over his own in an effort to shut him up.

They had both flushed red when they pulled back a short moment later only to crash together in a heated tangle of limbs again, perhaps expressing feelings they'd never have the courage to with just words—Wonwoo didn’t think he'd find the right words to ever encompass and convey what he would be trying to say anyways.

So now here he was in his bed being waited on for an answer by his roommate who he was overjoyed to now refer to as his boyfriend.

"No." he rasped out a reply in a groggy voice that concealed the tossing and turning he'd been doing in an effort to stop thinking about Mingyu and fall asleep a mere few restless moments ago.

"Can I sleep beside you here? I can’t really seem to fall asleep and I miss you." Wonwoo didn’t mention how they'd seen each other the whole day and up until an hour ago when he had excused himself saying he needed an early night tonight. He also didn’t mention how he was in a similar state, his mind occupied by his now boyfriend's thoughts, not showing any signs of the sleepiness he had faked. And he certainly didn’t mention how he had been wishing to get a chance for them to share a bed together—after all he didn’t want to come off as a pervert when all he was hoping for was a chance to close his eyes to the wonderful sight of Mingyu's face, start a new day with the younger's voice awakening him and preferably spending each night cuddled up in the taller's warm embrace that he had been sitting in a few hours ago as they talked about anything and everything while he finally dared to visualize the other's unwavering presence in his future. Keeping all this within the confines of his heart that was now thumping rapidly he just hummed out an affirmative answer rather shyly, hoping the other heard it.

Soon enough he heard quiet steps intended to not break the comforting silence that hummed in the air around them and felt a corner of the comforter being lifted. Next came the dipping of the bed that accommodated the arrival of the body behind his own. Soon enough after a few terse seconds, he could feel a hesitant arm draping itself across his waist, although the heat from its owner's body still felt like it was at too far of a distance than he would like causing his face to scrunch up in an involuntary frown.

He soon turned around in the other's embracing coming face to face with his boyfriend's red face whose colour he might have not seen had it not been for the nightlight he insisted on keeping on.

"Why are you keeping me at arm's length, Min? Are you feeling shy now? I was sure you weren’t this shy when you were kissing me earlier." Wonwoo couldn't help but comment, feeling sort of pleased at the flustered expression that appeared in response on Mingyu's usually composed face.

"Well, I am still new to this and it was just different then. Besides being this close to you, of course I'd be shy, what'd you even think would happen, hyung?" Mingyu replied a slight pout forming on his already adorable face.

"Whatever you say, Min. Now will you hug me properly or not? Didn’t you say you missed me?"

Wonwoo didn’t get a verbal response this time he just saw Mingyu's frame coming closer to his own, slowly erasing the distance between them, and felt his frame being wrapped in a firmer grasp than before, his hands finding a sturdy grip around the other's torso too.

This moment was more pleasing for Wonwoo than he could ever truly comprehend. He'd been pining for years, thinking this affection was always meant for someone else, someone more worthy perhaps. Yet being on the receiving end of it, he didn’t think he could go back to ever thinking that way. After all in his eyes they fit together like two puzzle pieces finding their right place beside each other in a rhythm that should have maybe been obvious. The timing felt right like he couldn’t imagine things coming together the way they did from his embarrassing confession to their here and now in any other way or at any other moment. And his heart, it truly felt full like it couldn’t handle anymore of the affection it held for the other man.

"I love you Min. Sleep well." Wonwoo felt a slight hitch in Mingyu's breath and a fraction of a moment when the arms around him imperceptibly tightened their hold along with a warm feeling that grew in his chest and a grin that appeared on his face, hidden by the fact that it was pressed against the recipient's body, out of sight.

"Love you too, Wonwoo-yah." the man replied adding a kiss to his hair like he couldn’t control himself from pouring the overwhelming feelings he was feeling into a gesture that shouldn’t have made Wonwoo fall harder than he already had for his partner.

Wonwoo had never been a fan of cuddles, or sleeping so warmly cuddled with another person but here he was and now with Mingyu everything felt perfect.
