All This Effort to Make It Look Effortless

Summary:

Charlie gets hurt while she’s practicing for an upcoming show. Sirius “reluctantly” takes care of her.

Written for Maylancholy Alt Prompt 4 and 6: Head Injury & Concussion

Notes:

Kinda based on that one moment in Sirius' release animation 'cause you're trying to tell me that Charlie was fine after that fall???

Work Text:

Charlie’s body hit the ground with a loud THUD, with her head taking most of the hit. She figured she would use this time to practice for the upcoming show tonight, but she severely overestimated her ability to do this trick.

She remained on the floor, dazed as her vision tried to focus. There was also a persistent ringing in her ears, and there was a lingering bit of nausea resting inside her.

Actually, the floor felt really nice. Maybe she’ll just rest here for a bit…

Charlie! Scheiße… aufwachen!

Charlie’s eyes opened, and she was immediately blinded by the stagelights above her. She weakly brought her arm up to block out the lights, and she looked over to see someone kneeling beside her. “...père?” She then felt herself being sat up, and her nausea came back full swing. She looked over at the man beside her, it was Sirius, or her “co-star” as he demanded to be called.

“I told you not to call me that!” He reprimanded her before placing his hand on the back of her head, feeling the massive bump that had formed on it. “What happened to you?!”

Charlie didn’t say anything, instead she stared into nothingness as if there was no one else with her. Sirius then shook her to get her attention, which worked, but only made her nausea worse. “...hmm?”

“What happened to you?! I heard a loud thud and then I found you unconscious on the floor! Did you fall?!”

Charlie zoned out again, but she quickly regained focus. “...maybe?”

Sirius groaned, and he got in front of Charlie to get a closer look at her face. She looked very dazed, which was confirming his suspicions that she fell and hit her head. He then left, and he came back with an ice pack for her head. She winced when he placed it on the bump, but it helped ease the pain… briefly at least.

Sirius then took the ice pack off, and he looked at Charlie’s face again. “You are not performing tonight young lady.”

“...why?”

“Because of your concussion!” Sirius stood up, and he tried helping Charlie up too. Once she stood up though, her nausea finally won, and she vomited after getting steady on her feet. Sirius cringed as he stepped away from the newly created mess. “...don’t worry… I’ll clean it up later.” Charlie almost passed out again, but Sirius managed to keep her awake as he brought her to her dressing room. He then laid her onto her bed, and she fell asleep shortly after.

Sirius waited by her bedside, waiting until she was in deep sleep before tucking her into bed. He smiled as he brushed some of her hair out of her face, and he softly kissed her forehead. “Rest, ma petite étincelle.

He then turned off the lights before leaving the room, and a smile tugged at Charlie’s lips. Sirius will never admit it out loud, but they both know just how much he cares about her deep down.
