Chapter Text
Romance seemed like a frivolous thing for Seijuuro. The modern world wasn’t better let alone the Romantic era or Victorian era etc. These authors like John Keats writing poems endlessly on and on love without experiencing it was just astonishing for Seijuuro. The co-dependency, loyalty and trust were all things you could get from a companion or a pet, so what was the difference with love?
Yet here he was, on a call with some of my closest friends, the miracles, talking about said frivolous romance problems.

“I JUST LIKE DONT GET IT,” weeped Kise, like he has for the past hour. “LIKE ARE YOU GAY OR NOT?? STOP WITH THE MIXED SIGNALS!!”
After Kise calmed down a bit, he looked up at the screen and asked,”You guys get me right, like i’m not yapping, i’m not dumb, just in love yeah?”
The rest of the miracles looked like deflated balloons. Even Momoi looked tired from Kise’s constant blubber, and she usually matched his energy perfectly. They were like siblings but not related of course.
Then again, it was common knowledge not to answer Kise’s calls, so the fault does lie on them partially.
“Kise, absolutely, pun unintended Akashi, no ones gives a shit.” started Aomine, “Like maybe take a goddamn hint, if the guy kicks you and hits you and tells you to die then maybe he isn’t a tsundere like Midorima,”
Midorima gave him a hard stare,
“But instead just he’s sick of you, like the rest of us are.”
“Period Mine-chin.” commented Murasakibara.
“But..” muttered Kise.
“Ki-chan, there’s many other guys out there. and girls.” soothingly said Momoi.
Akashi let out a sigh. It wasn’t that he didn’t care about his friend but why was he so fussed about this? As the saying goes, there are many fish in the sea. He even has an entire fan base of people practically frothing at the mouth for him.
“Kise, you do know you have others who would gladly fill the void you so desperately keep pushing Kasamatsu-san into. So why not date a fan?” questioned Akashi, crimson eyes gleaming.
.
.
.
In response, Kise gaped at him like a dumbfounded dog.
“LOVE!” he screeched. Akashi shifted away from his phone in a shock, “LOVE DOESNT FOLLOW NO RULES, like I don’t want my obsessed fans I want Kasamatsuchii cause i’m in love with him.
“Like you’ve been in love, right Akashichii?” asked Kise. Not even a second later he received a definite response.
“No, I just don’t see the appeal.”
“Akashi-kun,” spoke Kuroko, frightening everyone from his sudden appearance, “Didn’t you have a crush on Nijimura-san?”
“Wait wha-”
“No, I respected him, not love, no,” replied Akashi. He had a feeling Kuroko might bring this matter up again to torture him. And people say he’s the sadistic one.
“Wait so why-” Aomine tried again.
“What about Mayazumi-san?” Cut off Kuroko.
“Absolutely not, could you stop with the questioning,” ordered Akashi, “I am not or have been in love, I would rather go back to Kise’s situation or better yet slap you instead of talking about this.”
“Isn’t it the other way like around?” inquired Kise.
“Just don’t,” sighed Midorima, wearing crab sunglasses and holding a toy crab.
“So why are you gay then?!!” burst Aomine, “If you haven’t liked someone then you can’t know you’re gay can you?”
Akashi gave him an incredulous look and spluttered some sort of response.
“He could just look at guys and think they look good Mine-chin.” supplied Murasakibara.
“I’m leaving, have fun with your tom foolery.”

Akashi swiftly ended the call. He really wasted an hour, then 20 minutes more on the malarkey they were talking about. He could have revised some Japanese in that time.
Whilst pondering on his missed chances, his butler knocked his door. Akashi got up and opened it, an eyebrow raised to silently ask why he was here.
“Young master, your father requires your presence for dinner today,” responded Tanaka, “He would like to discuss a matter he has not disclosed with me and opposes any arguments against meeting him.”
“Alright, please tell him i’ll be there in ten minutes,” said Akashi and he gave a nod and closed the door.

For context, the past couple of months have just been a complete nuisance for Akashi since turning 17; even more so with it being a holiday and having to stay at his mansion. His father has already started trying to find him a wife and has been ushering him to these ‘friendly lunches’ to socialise and definitely not sell his son off. Masaomi has tried his best to get Akashi to fall in love like he did with Shiori. His father has only missed one key detail in Akashi’s life and that is his disinterest in females. Which Akashi refused to spell out for him.
And so, Akashi still puts a suit on (his least favourite one) and tries to look not too dapper to definitely not anger his father.
He starts to descend the spiralling stairs and notices he doesn’t hear much of a commotion down there. He sneakily tilts his head into the dinner room to just find his father, waiting for him with his phone in his hand. (Could he have just wanted to t-). He goes to sit down, dragging his chair roughly on the ground to alert his presence and looks expectantly at him.
“You called for me, Father.” he asked, heterochromic eyes narrowed on his him.
“Yes, I did,” his gruff voice answered, “I won’t sugar coat (not even a hello) the issue but, why haven’t you found a single female I have selected for you, each appropriate to some sort of standard.
“They all fit the Akashi criteria and as a smart boy i’m sure you see that too, so what’s…” he trailed off, cutting eye contact from his son to find the right words.
“What’s wrong?”
Wow. His father actually cares about him. For once at least. But of course only on a matter detrimental to the business.
“Nothing, Father,” he fought his inner self’s turmoil to tell him the truth, “None of the girl’s have piqued my interest is all.”
“Is it that you’d prefer to date someone, on a..” he trailed again whilst fidgeting slightly that only Akashi could pick up on it, “lower standard? If they produce an heir I suppose it wouldn’t be a problem, the company’s strong enough without some another’s influence,
“And I uh.. care about you son, so your needs should come first.”
•••
For some more context, his father has started playing father and son, trying to rebuild his broken relationship with Akashi. Akashi couldn’t trust the man considering her death, but he couldn’t be rude either. He just ignored these attempts or played it off with a smile. She always said his smile was an adorable one comparing it to an angel. Sure she’d love to see the angel he’s become now.

“I am unsure father, I suppose i’m not thinking about it currently since studies and basketball plague my mind,” said Akashi, “but since you think it’s necessary I will consider some options.”
“Right well, that was all I wanted to talk about, unless you want to..”
“I have some homework and council business to catch up on father,” Akashi said cutting him off, “May I leave?”
“If you don’t want dinner then I can have it sent to you, (don’t even get a choice) so you may go,” Masaomi gave a curt nod and watched Akashi walk out the door. The feeling he had done something wrong lingered in the back of his head [but was overcome by hawks eating pizza at the coast in Hawaii and dancing to ‘I’m not gay’ by Jesse Boy.]
