Work Text:
The night was as silent as ever, leaving a mark of uncertainty and fear. Dan Heng had been sitting on the sofa for who knows how long, as if he was waiting for someone to arrive.
Faint sounds could be heard from the clock, tick by tick getting heavier by the second tensing up the atmosphere. It had been 3 hours since March left him to go out, and she still hadn't come back.
At this rate, Dan Heng was getting worried.
That was, until a knock could be heard from the door. It must be her, right? Dan Heng rushed to answer the door, as always his speculations were spot on.
March is seen standing right outside of the door with grocery bags, it seems he had forgotten that March had gone out to shop due to them running low on snacks. It was typical of March for doing it, but this time it felt.. strange.
Nevermind that, Dan Heng was still glad she came back safe, helping her bring the groceries inside.
It seemed like March bought a lot of things, being either snacks or toys she found cute. As they finished transporting the bags inside, March took a deep breath and sat down on the kitchen seat.
"Thanks, Dan Heng."
"No problem."
Weird. March had never called Dan Heng by his regular name, it was either Dannie or other nicknames she had created for him. It didn't take long for Dan Heng to realize what dire state he was in—he didn't know if she had caught up with him knowing, but Dan Heng didn't want to take chances.
"Say, March. What did you buy? It looked like you bought the whole store."
"Oh, you know, snacks and such."
She gave a dramatic pause before continuing—Giving Dan Heng a sly smirk.
"Why ask, Dan Heng? You thought I hadn't realized yet?"
Dan Heng froze. He never thought that she would caught on this fast.
"What do you mean?"
He tried to act confused, buying time to conduct a plan as he was reaching for the cupboards. March had already known what he was planning, it was quite bothersome.
As Dan Heng turned his view to the side, he was met with a cold gaze—bold red eyes piercing through him.
"I find it obnoxious that you're avoiding my que—oh my, getting feisty are we?"
March was pinned against the wall by Dan Heng, gazing towards his eyes. What a bright teal color, it rather fits you.. A smile slowly crept onto March's face, she found it quite amusing to see Dan Heng in such a panic state. Perhaps it was because the March in front of him now... wasn't really her, is she?
"What did you do to her."
"Do what to who?"
"You know who I'm referring to. Stop acting dumb."
Dan Heng tightened his grip, sending a warning to her. It seemed like he wasn't planning on playing around.. How boring of him.
"My, you wouldn't hurt little old March here, would you?"
His jaw tightened as he heard those words coming out of her mouth, seemed like he had enough of her small talk. He closed up the gap between their faces—leaving behind only a few small inches.
"You are not March 7th."
"Oh, but I really am."
By then, March had let out a small giggle, as if to tease him.
"The March 7th you hold so dear to, she had always been me—and I've always been her."
"Stop lying. You're nothing like her."
"Still in denial, are we? Well then, suit yourself. Whether you believe me or not is not my concern. Just keep in mind, hurting me is the equivalent of hurting her."
"And why should I believe you? For all I know you might be lying just so that I can let you free. I'm not stupid enough to fall for your tricks."
March had already grown tired of his banter, as if he had become 'boring' in her eyes by then. She decided that she would have one last try before ending the lovely conversation between them.
"Fine, I'll tell you who I really am."
Dan Heng lessens his grip, waiting for her answer.
"I am Evernight, a part of March 7th. You could say that we're the same person—but not through memories. You can see me as her.. guardian, of some sort."
Evernight..?
At this rate, Dan Heng was already puzzled by this revelation. For what possible reason would she have to suddenly appear out of the blue and take control of March's body?
Before he could react, in the corner of his eye he saw jellyfish-like creatures floating around them. He immediately stared at March—no—Evernight—for an explanation.
"Looks like you've caught on with my little suprise, do you like it?"
"Don't play with me, Evenight. What's the meaning of this?"
Evernight smiled eerily, her gaze fixed on Dan Heng, as if she were planning something cheeky. As the jellyfish closed up on the both of them, Evernight broke free from Dan Heng's grip with brute force, leaving marks on March's wrist.
Before Dan Heng had time to act, Evernight pulled his head towards her, making their lips collide. When the time came, Evernight pulled away from the kiss, leaving him with one last sentence.
"I'll make sure you never forget me."
