Work Text:

“Are you sure you can’t haunt him?” Padmé asked again. “You were able to talk to Luke, weren’t you?”

“Even though I can appear to the living, it takes a certain mindset on their part in order to see and hear me,” Obi-Wan said. “One which, I’m afraid, Anakin lacks.”

Padmé sighed. “I just think that if you could give him your disappointed face for long enough, now that he can no longer stab you first, that eventually he’d cross back over the light.”

“Even if he could see me, Anakin is well past the point where that would work.”

“Oh, never doubt the effectiveness of the disappointed face, Obi-Wan,” Qui-Gon cut in. “Mace can attest to how many times I’ve been stopped by one.”

“Not nearly as many times as you should have,” Mace said, not looking up.

“It may yet be worth attempting to speak with Anakin,” Ki-Adi-Mundi said, peering past them into the world of the living. “Despite his commitment to the Sith, he seems as though he wants to speak to Obi-Wan. He’s certainly speaking about Obi-Wan often enough. Perhaps he regrets killing him?”

“That is,” Mace said wearily, “the usual amount he talks about Obi-Wan.”
