Chapter Text
Jennifer had killed Needy’s own boyfriend. And yet- she is unable to feel an ounce of hatred towards her. Not towards Jennifer, but towards the demon that has now capacitated her body. Although Needy finds it strange that even with this humanity-devoid creature, Jen still cares for her. She still abides in Needy, and tells her things that she would otherwise keep secret. Jennifer should have killed Needy. I mean, she is a loose end, and could blab her out to the police at any time. But she knows Needy wouldn’t. She couldn’t. Because sandbox love never dies- even when one host is missing.
Needy slowly approaches Jen’s window. Boxcutter in hand, because she couldn’t find anything better to use. She knows that Jen is weak. She hasn’t fed since she killed Colin, because Needy didn’t let her get Chip. Needy peers into the window, and watches the love of her life Jennifer, lay in bed, a sickly pale encasing her skin. Needys heart breaks seeing her like this. Even though she was turned into this awful demon, Needy doesn’t see Jennifer as such. She sees her as her best friend, the beautiful, mean on the outside, but soft on the inside, girl who loves her more than anything on the earth. It doesn’t matter that Jennifer is fucking five other dudes, or that people call her a whore. She treats Needy with the rough kindness that no other person has.
Ever since that stupid kiss(es) Needy has suffered from this gnawing, aching sensation in her heart every time she sees Jennifer. Even while she was eating her boyfriend, she still felt it! And she couldn’t understand why (yes, she can) it won’t go away. Now that she is standing there, watching this girl, who has devoured her entire life with her beauty and friendship, wielding a box cutter that she intends to plunge into her heart, it hits her. All at once, it hits her that she can’t do this. She needs to, innocent people are dying because of Jennifer, but she can’t. Those stupid band boys took Jen from her once, but she cannot bring herself to do it again. Because who is she without her? The answer is nothing.
“Make up your mind damnit” she whispers to herself. “Don’t be a pussy. You have to do this. I can’t let her keep doing this.” So she smashes through the window and jumps onto Jennifer’s frail, weak body, and wraps her hands around her throat. Yet, all Jennifer does is stare. She stares with those beautiful blue eyes that are now a muted gray. And Needy sees it. She sees the hurt, and desperation buried into her soul, the pain and suffering shown on her face. It is here that she realizes that Jennifer isn’t gone. She is right her in front of her. She never left, she simply took a new form to try and survive- for Needy.
Suddenly, Jennifer pulled her down and bit down into the side of her neck, sucking in Needy’s blood to regain some strength. It took all of Needy’s willpower to pull away. She wanted to lay there and let Jennifer suck every last drop of blood from her body, because maybe then she would taste the love Needy carried for her. Needy let out a weak scream and pulled back, then Jennifer shot up into the air, leaving them both suspended above the bed. All of Needy’s anger boiled to the surface, and she grabbed the locket hung around Jennifer’s neck. All it would take is one tug, then the bond would be broken. All it would take is one tug, and their sandbox love would die. All it would take is one tug, and the love in Needy’s heart would combust and kill her from the inside out.
She hesitated then, in midair, two teenage girls, who knew nothing but each other grasping for their way out. Her heart pounded in her ears, and she could have sworn that the girl below her’s heartbeat synced with her own. In one motion, Needy released the necklace and shoved Jennifer downwards to the bed, where her own body soon followed. Needy readied the box cutter, and let out a desperate wail. But all Jennifer did was watch. She watched as her lover best friend plummeted towards her, and prepared to sink a blade through her heart. Even as this demon possessed her figure, she couldn’t help but watch from behind the curtains- her heart breaking with every moment that passed. Yet she wouldn’t dare close her eyes. If this was the last time she ever saw Needy, she didn’t care- even if it was while a knife plunged into her heart. As long as it was the girl she loved that did it, nothing else mattered.
A memory flashed through Needy’s mind. The last time she saw Jennifer, not this demon wearing her skin, but the real Jennifer. The one she loved. That look in her eyes, sitting in the back of that van, where Needy realized that she would never see her again, and the moment Jennifer wished she had just taken Needy’s hand and gone home. The innocence of her life, stripped away, and here she was, about to do it again. Jennifer had found a way to return to Needy, to hold her and kiss her and console her. But she was going to take that away because of what? Because Jennifer killed one teenage boy a month to survive? What is wrong with her? The only girl that ever truly loved her is now laying underneath her, mercifully allowing Needy to murder her for the greater good. No. She won’t. She can’t. Not when she loves her so much. Not when she still wishes to be in her arms. Not when their sandbox love hasn’t died.
So Needy moves the boxcutter aside, and crashes down atop of Jennifer, letting the blade pierce the mattress to her right. She breaks into sobs. And the girl beneath her sobs. And they wrap around each other so easily, like a puzzle piece slotting into place. It seemed as though they remained that way forever. Until their breathing slowed, and their soft cries turned into hiccups and sniffles. Needy pulled back and met Jennifer’s gaze. She analyzed every detail of her face till it was engraved into her mind. She recalled the moment after they escaped the burning bar, when she grabbed Jennifer’s face and begged her to come home, a lost, sorrowful look embedded into her eyes.
”Im sorry Jennifer. I’m so, so sorry. I thought I could do it, I thought I had to do it. But I love you. So I won’t.” The confession slid from Needy’s lips with no resistance. She waited for Jennifer’s response, but it never came.
She then started backtracking, “I-I don’t know what I was thinking Jen! Please just kill me, I deserve it after what I di-” Her rambling was cut short when a pair of lips collided with her own. Needy gasped and went stiff, but quickly relaxed and melted into the kiss. The two girls only separated when they ran out of breath.
“Monistat, calm down. I get it. And to be fair, I woulda let you kill me. It’d be an honor for you to be the last person I see before my heart is impailed by a Home Depot box cutter.” Jennifer smirked. Needy groaned and buried her face into Jens neck, mumbling something that Needy herself couldn’t quite understand.
“Needy you really are Needy. Always wanting to be tied to my hip.”
“I’m sorry” She grumbled in response.
Suddenly, an idea popped into her head. She turned her chin and whispered into Needy’s ear, “Why don’t you show me just how sorry you really are?”
