Summary
In a rain-drenched cemetery, eighteen-year-old Dazai stands before Oda Sakunosuke’s grave for the first time, his grief unravelling into something unstable and performative. When Ango arrives to fullfill Oda’s final promise—erasing Dazai’s criminal record so he can leave the Mafia—the encounter fractures. Dazai swings between manic, almost ecstatic cruelty and sudden, hollow detachment, twisting friendship, guilt, and loyalty into distorted accusations and impossible demands. As his composure collapses, he pulls Ango into a disturbing fantasy of reunion and shared death, blurring affection, blame, and manipulation until even Ango can no longer tell whether he is witnessing a breakdown, a performance, or something in between—leaving only rain, regret, and an unfinished promise behind.
