Summary
"Are we being weird?" Weird was a word that could mean anything. Were they being petty about not keeping contact, just not sure how to talk after school, or was Mike just hung up on Will being gay. Because Will was the gay one, Mike had to remind himself of that.
"Yeah I think so." His mind's eye wandered over to the box where he kept the stuff he didn't want his mom to see. Where he had kept the video tape, the magazine, and Will's yearbook photo. Mike had kept the one from his own yearbook, and now it was crumpled from how much he had held it the past few weeks. Mike was the one being weird, ruining their friendship.
"I'm sorry." Mike couldn't help his voice breaking a bit, and he let go of the button on his walkie before continuing. "I'm sorry for breaking the rules Will." He felt the need to make things up to Will, to fix their friendship before it got weird for real.
or: Mike has a set of rules: Will was allowed to be into guys, Mike wasn't. They were both absolutely not allowed to be into each other, that was just obvious. A perfect system of rules, if only he could follow even a single one.
