[A hand knocks on a hotel door of the Carlyle Hotel. Ilya Rozanov answers the door in only a towel that’s slung low across his waist, his hair damp from a shower. He crosses his arms and leans against the door frame, a lazy smirk on his face.]
Ilya: Well, hello.
Shane: Ilya, what are you–
[A robed Shane Hollander appears behind his husband, and when he sees the camera crew in front of him, he rolls his eyes and lightly hits Ilya’s arm.]
Shane: Hi there. Ignore him please. Come in.
[A series of shots are shown of the two men in their hotel room. Shane laughs at something Ilya says while Ilya pours them a generous serving of vodka. Someone massaging Shane’s hands as he’s given a manicure. Ilya doing push-ups on the floor. A steamer working over a garment with a gold gilded pattern. The video eventually settles back on the two men, both now robed, sitting beside each other on a couch.]
Shane: Hi Vogue, I’m Shane Hollander.
Ilya: And I’m Ilya Rozanov.
Shane: And you’re going to get ready with us for the Met Gala.
[The shot switches again to Shane sitting in a chair as a groomer, Raquel, works product into his hair, and Ilya watches from a relaxed position on the couch.]
Shane: I think we don’t really know what expect, but we’re excited. It’s been kind of whirlwind year for us, so to even be invited to an event like feels extra surreal.
Ilya: Yes, get outed online in a Fan Mail video and you too can get invited to the Met Gala.
[The video moves to the stylist, Danielle, talking about Shane and Ilya’s outfits for the evening.]
Danielle: Both guys are wearing Thom Browne for the evening, and we really wanted to be on theme, while also kind of subverting people’s ideas about Shane and Ilya. Ilya’s typically seen as more bold and Shane is more reserved, so we wanted to play on that a little bit and still keep them comfortable. They both tend to wear really functional clothing because they’re on the move so much, so we wanted to take the chance to glam them up as much as possible. The theme is gilded age based, so Ilya’s tux is pretty classic take on a white tie tux, but with a longer overcoat this gorgeous star pattern embroidered on the dress shirt. There’s also this really nice detailing of these hand beaded peacocks on the overcoat which we thought was a really nice and subtle nod to his flashy personality.
[There’s a short clip of Ilya admiring the jacket and slipping it on while a tailor looks over final details. When it changes back to Danielle, Shane and Ilya are standing with her as she talks about Shane’s outfit, fluffing the length of an extravagant coat.]
Danielle: And I’m really so excited about Shane’s outfit because it’s a little more over the top and flashy. He’s got this corsetted top and a really fitted and tailored pant, but the show stopper is this embroidered coat that you can almost describe as a cape. It’s got this stunning gold leaf embroidery all over and the dramatic sleeves really bring your eye in. The coat is a really heavy piece, but it’ll be worth it for the effect.
Ilya: It cannot be any heavier than all our hockey gear.
Danielle: That’s probably so true.
Ilya: And he has been training for this for years with me being on top of him all the time.
[Shane looks directly into the camera and exhales a long breath through his nose.]
Shane: You’ll cut that part out, right?
[Ilya is shown sitting in a chair as Raquel blow dries his golden-brown curls while Shane looks at his phone in a nearby chair right next to Ilya.]
Raquel: We’re keeping it pretty simple tonight in terms of hair styling and skin goes. For Shane we’re doing a slightly more elevated look with his hair slicked back behind his ears, and for Ilya, I really wanted to let his natural curl come out so we’re going to push it back a little at sides so it’s more full on top.
Ilya: I admire you for taking on the task of trying to make me look more handsome than I already am.
Raquel: [laughing] It is an almost impossible task. We’re keeping the skincare to a minimum today too. Just a little lip plumper and some color on the cheeks so they don’t wash out in photos and they’ll be good to go. How you two have such flawless skin with all that sweat and basically no skincare routine, I’ll never understand.
[Ilya reaches out and squeezes Shane’s cheeks and Shane tries to protest through the contact, but his words are completely muffled. Ilya smiles charmingly at the camera.]
Ilya: Why mess with perfection?
[Another series of shots plays out. Ilya bear hugging an assistant that delivers him McDonalds. Shane and Ilya hugging tightly with hair pins in both of their hair. Shane being laced into his corset, much of his chest still on display. And finally, both men fully dressed and standing at the door of their room. Shane straightens the gold chokers at his neck and then checks his watch.]
Shane: Okay well, I guess that’s it then. Thanks for getting ready with us.
Ilya: Yes, thank you for the invite and the opportunity to see my husband in a corset. Dreams really do come true.
[Shane rolls his eyes and begins to shut the door.]
Shane: See you on the steps.

[A video of Shane and Ilya arriving at the famous steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A handler shows them where to stand, and they grasp hands as they begin to pose. Their names are called repeatedly by photographers craving their attention, as crowds from across the street scream at their arrival. Camera shutters click, and after a few moments, several photographers ask for individual photos. Ilya begins to move, but Shane holds his hand firm, expression appearing concerned and slightly overwhelmed at the idea he will be separated from his husband. Ilya smiles warmly at him, as he backs away. He bows slightly at the waist, his head cocking to the side as he holds out his hand as if he is presenting the main attraction. This causes Shane to smile and then laugh at Ilya’s antics and Ilya smiles widely back in return. A handler comes to help arrange Shane’s long coat, and Ilya bends down to help him, even directing Shane to turn a bit and look over his shoulder so the coat can be seen in its full glory.]
@vogue The First Husbands of Hockey have arrived on the steps at the Met!

[Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov stand with Emma Chamberlain. Each holding microphones in their hands as attendees continue to climb the stairs just behind them.]
Emma: Oh, wow. Okay. You two look incredible. Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov tell me about this.
[She gestures to their outfits and Ilya once again steps back and gestures towards his husband. Shane shakes his head and pulls his large coat a little closer to his body.]
Ilya: Insane, right?
Emma: Insane.
[Ilya moves closer to Shane, gently pulling back the coat at his waist to show off the corset underneath.]
Ilya: Look at his slutty little waist.
[Shane looks slightly manic as he gently bats Ilya’s hand away, and laughs nervously. Emma reaches out and puts a placating hand on Shane’s arm as she nods her agreement with Ilya.]
Shane: God, Ilya.
Emma: No, he’s right, it’s perfection. Who designed your looks for tonight?
Shane: We’re both wearing Thom Browne, and we had a whole team of people around us today that helped make this happen, and we can’t thank everyone enough.
Emma: It truly takes a village for these events. So, tell me. You’ve had a crazy year. Does this kind of feel like a nice end to a really long road?
Shane: Yeah, I mean we’ve been together for a really long time, and having to hide that was exhausting. We are public figures, but not so much that we can’t have some privacy and we still really value that, but it’s nice to be out sometimes together, and so when the invitation came down, we jumped on, and we’re really glad to be here together.
Emma: Alright, so as the first NHL players to ever attend the Met, what are you looking forward to doing once you get inside? Anyone you want to meet?
Ilya: Eating. Eating sounds really nice.
Emma: The food is really good!
Ilya: And I would love to meet Bad Bunny. I have been practicing my Spanish in preparation.
Shane: Watching telenovelas with subtitles doesn’t really count as practicing Spanish.
Emma: He’s fantastic though, isn’t he? He’s inside already, so you’ll have to find him. What about you, Shane?
Shane: There’s a lot of people I’m looking forward to seeing again. I hope I can reconnect with Anna Wintour.
[Ilya looks confused and Emma seems impressed.]
Ilya: You know her?
Emma: You know Anna Wintour?
Shane: Uh, yeah. I did a Vogue shoot a few years ago that celebrated althete bodies and she happened to stop by the set. I sent her flowers afterwards. We’ve kept in touch a bit.
[Ilya looks at his husband as if he’s seeing something fascinating. He catches Shane’s eye and clearly mouths ‘the fuck?’ causing Shane to shrug.]
Emma: Well, no wonder you got an invite then! Anyone else?
Shane: Uh, I think Lin Manuel-Miranda is here. I met him a couple years ago when I took my parents to see Hamilton. Oh, and Ryan Reynolds is a fan.
Ilya: Ryan Reynolds?
Shane: Yeah, I’ve met him a few times. He loves hockey. He even tried to buy the Centaurs a while back. And then I think I saw Karlie Kloss here. She was on that shoot I did for Vogue. Seth Myers. I’ve been on his show a couple of times after we won the Stanley Cup. Plus, I’ve met a lot of people here through my friend Rose Landry, so it should be a fun night.
[Ilya looks at his husband his face seemingly torn between appearing dumfounded and impressed. He opens his mouth as if to speak, but when Shane looks at him, he snaps it shut.]
Emma: Okay, wow, Mr. Hollywood, I love it. Thanks so much for chatting with my you two, and I hope you have so much fun in there.
[As they walk off, Ilya can be heard saying, ‘You know all these people? You’ve never mentioned them.’ and Shane replies, ‘Why would I?’]
