Chapter 1: New Face

Chapter Text

the night was nice; cold as much as it was quiet. max somewhat wished she had someone beside her right about now, not necessarily safi but more a certain girl that handles the bar she would definitely now frequently go to in the future. to say the least max had been crushing hard ever since she first laid eyes on her tonight, boy was she glad safi took her to get waisted after a horrible friday in terms of doing work. she was done with the week and needed to blow some steam and alcohol seemed like the only appropriate way.

max and safi sat up near the bar where amanda was tending. it must of been the liquor or else safi had just caught max lacking, she totally checked her out. "like what you see there lover max?" safi chuckled.

"whoa whoa, it's not what it seems-" she partially slurred, shocked that she'd been called out.

"max do you think I was birthed yesterday? you SO have the hots for amanda thomas, just admit it." she shrugged, "safe space."

max was about to respond before being interrupted by the very same girl she was just eyeing down. she was so surprised she knocked over the shot safi had just ordered for her. "shit sorry-" max said apologetically to the bartender.

"hey don't sweat it dude! at least you didn't break the glass.. unlike someone." she reassured while sending a death glare reggie's way. "names amanda, don't think i've seen you around? unless I have but i'm quite sure my memory isn't that bad."

"ah you probably haven't, i'm honestly pretty new round these parts."

"figured, whould've noticed someone like you." the girl stated with an oddly specific glare she couldn't seem to pin point before pouring her a new one. "here it's on the house."

"wow thanks, i'm max by the way, max caulfield."

"mentally noted.. might want to die down on the shots by the way, your face is flushed." she smirked before heading off to clean the table that was past occupied.

"well holy shit." safi said leaning against her arm on the bar top, "what?" max questioned.

"are you kidding me?? the hot bartender flirts with you and your oblivious?" she sighs shaking her head before looking back at the clueless girl, "oh we aren't kidding?"

"MAX please, girl how many opportunities with people have you missed?"

"honestly I don't want to know.." the short brown haired girl sighed before downing the shot. it was sweet, a lot easier to down than the past few rounds of drinks safi had ordered.

about half an hour later of drinking and on and off talking between the two girls, max was almost - if not was completely wasted. it also didn't help that safi left about 15 minutes ago because moses needed her for an 'emergency' when really she just wanted to leave her there with amanda. she'd also stayed until closing time, a new personal record for her.

"max I told you to stop ages ago." amanda said leaning on the counter opposite of her. "what am I to do with you now, huh?" she smiled before nearing max. the rest of the establishment was empty already; everyone had already left for their cars or walk back to their apartments.

amanda thought for a moment. she didn't know where max lived - hell she didn't even know the girl in general, they'd met only hours ago and max had been consumed by alcohol pretty much for all of it; yet she still flirted with her. which she was probably going to regret, surely. lets see, flirting with a girl she just met, where she worked, who was also under the influence. sounds normal and like a very good decision.

"my place? no- ugh but where else?" amanda said aloud to herself because clearly the half passed out max in her bar wasn't paying any mind to her, unlike before. she did in fact catch max staring at her every move and overheard they're little talk about her. she wasn't one to judge though, if anything it was kind of cute. max had also caught her attention when she first entered, and that was a very rare thing to happen with amanda.

"alright max, lets get you to my car.. if I can." she sighed. it took her nearly 20 minutes but it was worth it, she couldn't just kick her out and let her sleep on the ground hungover.

after the drive amanda dragged the girl into her apartment building and gave her a seat on her couch. she had fortunately woken up slightly more during the drive so she didn't need to use as much effort into getting her into the building. "okay max you stay here, I'll go get you some water." she said before disappearing.

max glanced around the room she was now sat it. it was filled with plants, books and native art pieces just like the few she'd seen earlier in the bar. it seemed very amanda or at least like what she assumed amanda was like.

"alright take off your shoes and lie down for me. you'll probably knock out like a light soon." she chuckled, "here." amanda passed max the glass of water to which she took a long hard sip of, after all those shots her throat was rather dry. "thank you." max found herself saying.

"of course!" she said while taking a seat beside her on a smaller couch, "no I really mean it, you didn't need to go out of the way to help me like this."

"well I couldn't of just left you there, I wouldn't have anyway."

"mm still.. it was really sweet." she whispered before falling asleep.

amanda faintly smiled, "goodnight caulfield."
