What Catches the Eye...and What Holds the Attention

Work Text:

Her beauty caught his eye first- and how could it not, anyone would be hard pressed to miss just how striking a woman Laura was, with her stature and visible strength, but it was her voice that really drew Elliot’s attention. Musician that he was, he couldn’t help but wonder how that lovely contralto voice of hers might sound in song.

As it turned out there was little opportunity to discover, though she kept his attention in other ways. Laura may not have been a born musician but her attention to skill development was not missed on Elliot and in the short time she had to learn the drums for the concert, she was already playing with far more proficiency than he may have expected of her.

Her passion may lie with the blade, but Elliot could appreciate her devotion. He knew well what was needed to dedicate one’s life so fully to one pursuit, even as their chosen pursuits differed.
