"Calling Hikaru selfish was an easy way out. That way, Yoshiki could drown everything else that pawed at the inside of his chest within his anger and not have to think about his repentance nor his shame. That way, he wouldn’t have to face anything at all. He’d tried choosing that path so many times before— the one where he could run away without having to look back at the monster looming over his shoulder, always following him around wherever he went. He’d tried ignoring it countless times before but the shadow it casted over his life only became more impossible to overlook as years passed. He couldn’t outrun the length of it if he tried. He was convinced that he was stuck with it and he forever would be. The weight would strain his shoulders until the day he sank, sank, sank into the ground and slipped underneath it.
