Summary
“You look much different when I’m sober.”
When the man flutters his eyelashes, Kunikida hears the ruffling of a dove’s feathers, just before it takes off. Kunikida can’t help the way he leans his shoulders back. In his own home, so aware of his posture, he feels ridiculous.
“Is that a bad thing?”
Dazai clicks his tongue. A dark pool of fine java drips across his body, sizing him up.
“Not at all.”
Kunikida realizes, staring at the man laid out on his couch, he had never seen him sober. Not once in their limited meetings.
Not until now, with the man’s eyes focused, and an absent smile tracing his lips. His cheeks looked pale without their usual flush, his eyes empty. Sober, he looked like a corpse. He had half a mind to voice his observation, but kept it to himself. Instead, he sucked on the sheen of mucus on his tongue and stepped over the living room threshold, closer to the stranger. What was one more stupid decision?
“Would you like some breakfast?”
...
Kunikida meets a beautiful man on a routine Tuesday who implants himself into his life.
